23 rd April 2023

Start 20K-1030 10k-1100

Offas Orror is back for 2023!  Described in a 2017 Runners World article as "one of the finest trails races the UK has to Offa”, the full 20k Offas Orror follows a figure-8 shaped course along the beautiful Lower Wye Valley.  Much of it follows the Offas Dyke long distance path, including along the River Wye, and then in the woods opposite Tintern it parallels ODP running along the top of Shorncliff below the Devils Pulpit viewpoint - the section of ODP in the woods is subject erosion and mass running events are not permitted here.  Apart from a few short stretches near the start on quiet lanes, it is almost all on footpaths and tracks - including the 'Lemmings Leap' descent and the track up the notorious Happa Hill at halfway round, which you run up again shortly before the finish.  Or more accurately, before dropping down to another short and final pull up.

New for 2023 is the Offas Orrible 10k.  A different course to the Offas MT 10k (and indeed the Tintern Trot), this follows the second half of the Offas Orror 20k, and is entirely on footpaths and tracks.  It’s tough but rewarding, and it must be one of the loveliest 10k trail runs there is.  10k runners will be delighted to know that they too get to run up Happa Hill twice, with much of the 335m of ascent being conquered in the first mile or so.

Toilets: The hall has several toilets. Remove muddy shoes before entering the hall.

The Offas Orrible 10k race starts at 11:00 about 100m from the hall, where the final pull up to the finish starts.

The Finish: Close to the hall (and cake and refreshments).

Results: We are using chip timing again this year - your chip is a small foam pad attached to back of your race number. Treat it with respect - they are delicate! Broken chip = no result.
