Inland Revenue Scam Alert

Recently there have been a rash of cold calls purporting to be from HMRC, claiming that the recipient has failed to pay sufficient income tax and that a warrant has been sworn out for their arrest.

To prevent being arrested the recipient has to purchase a quantity of prepaid cards i.e. Itunes or  Steam cards from a specific outlet for the outstanding amount and they will be contacted for the code number on the back of the card.

I am aware of a lady receiving such a call, purchasing £500 worth of such cards and after handing over the code numbers there was a demand for a further £500 worth of cards.

HMRC – The Tax Office – will NEVER cold call you at all for any reason.

Should you receive such a call, put the phone down and report it to the Police on 101.

Please bring this matter to the attention to all your members particularly the elderly and those who live on their own.

Be very suspicious of any call which states that money is owed and can be paid off by purchasing pre-paid vouchers such as Itunes, UK Cash vouchers or Western Union Payments. Please report all and any such calls to the Police.

Burglaries in Charlton Kings, Leckhampton and Tivoli

Leckhampton

A garden ornament was used to smash the rear window of a house in Greenhills Road sometime between 10am and 5.55pm on 18th July.  The offenders made an untidy search of the house causing some damage and stole a quantity of cash.

On 19th July between 1.30pm and 3pm while the occupants were out for lunch their home in London Road was entered.  The offenders kicked the front door until it sprung opened.  They conducted a search of the house but we have no details of any stolen property at present.

At 4am on 19th July the owners of a house in Old Bath Road discovered that the back door was wide open. The back door may have been left unlocked by the owners. Two sets of car keys and a handbag were missing.  One of the family cars was also missing from outside.  The handbag was immediately recovered from outside the house and the stolen car was later recovered from the Hesters Way area.

A second house in Old Bath Road was entered at about 2.30pm on 21st July when two men were seen to kick the front door to gain entry.  They were quickly disturbed by neighbours and the owner returning home.  They are described as white males and one was aged in his late 30’s to early 40’s, 6 foot tall, of slim build, with short grey hair and wore a light blue top, jeans and white trainers; he may also have had a dark hooded top with him. The second male was 6 foot tall, of stocky build, short brown hair and was in his late 30’s. He wore a grey striped shirt and had a walking stick. Nothing appears to have been stolen.

Charlton Kings
The glass in the front door of a house in School Road was smashed on 19th July between the hours of 8.15am and 5.30pm in order to gain entry.  The house was searched and jewellery was stolen from a bedroom.  A set of car keys and the car they belong to is also missing off the drive.

Tivoli

An unoccupied house in Ashford Road was entered between 6am on 18th July and 8.15pm the following day.  The offenders forced a side door and performed a tidy search of the property. Jewellery and a play station have been stolen.

In the majority of cases the installation of an intruder alarm will prevent forced entry by opportunist thieves. Please make sure that you lock all doors and secure all ground floor and accessible windows when you leave your home unoccupied.  Open windows are an invitation to intruders particularly during this hot spell of weather.

Please report any suspicious activity straight away and use 999 if there is a crime being committed.
