Special Occasion Speech Grade Rubric

Assignment Description
Special Occasion speech: Construct and deliver a speech to introduce, commemorate, praise, condemn, pay tribute, nominate, dedicate, or entertain the audience. You may exercise your creativity on this assignment. The topic/subject/idea etc. can be real or imaginary. There is no formal research requirement for this speech. This speech is 3-5 minutes in length and requires an outline. This assignment is related to Student Learning Outcomes three AND six: “To demonstrate delivery that is adapted to the speaker, audience, purpose and occasion,” AND “To use language that is clear, colorful, concrete, correct and concise.” Students will be assessed on their ability to adapt to their chosen occasion and their appropriate use of language.

The speech is under time:                                         10 points off the final grade for the speech
The speech is over time:                                           10 points off the final grade for the speech
The speech is not a Special Occasion speech:     20 points off the final grade for the speech
The speech is an unexcused make-up speech:     50 points off the final grade for the speech
