Sods Law! A full squad last week when the game was called off, then this week - 2 injured Saturday, 2 with illness Sunday, 2 working and Amy Winehouse Appleby struggling with her addiction - 2 pints and "I'm in a mess Woza".
This meant we called Jake Ankers out of early retirement to centre with the excellent Adam Stuart and injured Stevie Bruce solidified the defence after a late fitness test. Aiden and I brought some much needed quality to the bench.
A first half of good football, lots of possession and loads of poor crosses meant it was going to be one of those days. Thanks to Matty Oldfield I spent most of it in the graveyard (perhaps that's where he thinks I belong?).
The second half saw plenty more chances go begging, the keeper having a great game, the post and bar were also rocked - frustration was growing. Until captain Rio Yates crept in at the back post to head in from a corner.
Oldie eventually found his shooting boots and doubled the lead not long before the end. At least we kept plugging away and got the result to send us through to the last 8.
We really need to re-group for this weeks visit of Adswood United and concentrate on staying at the top of the pile. Lads that have been missing of late and those that have been present 'but missing' all have to dig in and show us what you're made of.
Man of Match - Adam Staurt
Mare of Match - Amy Applebly
