ABOUT ME

Hello ! My name is Mary Runyon-Hanshew.

Class of 1960-Chatsworth High School

I have created this site for those who may be looking for information on their family that lived in the Chatsworth/ Charlotte/ Germanville area. I was bitten by the "genealogy bug" back in the 1980's and have traced my Runyon family back 11 generations, to the 1600's, and my Nance line, my mother's line, back 7 generations.
I was born and raised in Chatsworth. I have lived in several states from coast to coast, but seems I always come back to home.

I come from a family of 10 children, five of which graduated from CHS.

This is my family at the Chatsworth Park on the occassion of celebration our parents , Erney Clifford "Cliff" and Grace (Nance)  Runyon's 50th wedding anniversary.
Back row:Tom, Erney, Randy, Richard, Larry ("Nick") and Donald ("Harv")
Front row:June (Arnold), Mary (Hanshew), Sandra (Garrett) and Barbara (Black)

I attended the old wooden Chatsworth school that was located on old Route 24, grades 1-5.

Grades 6-12 were spent at the new brick Chatsworth school, located on 6th Street. Both are now gone. What a sad thing!
One of my teachers was Helen Louise Plaster Stoutemyer, author of "Sands of Time-150 Years Around Chatsworth". A woman I admired very much.

I wish I had been more appreciative of my own heritage and my hometown's heritage many years earlier. So as the years start to wane, I am trying to leave some heritage out here for those looking to trace their heritage. The original "Chatsworth Illinois Memories" was created in 2002, and has now evolved to this site. I hope that you will enjoy it and hopefully find some help if you are looking for family history.
I will be glad to do look-ups for anyone, with the books that I have at my disposal. Also, I am living back in Chatsworth now and I have started to photograph the headstones in the Chatsworth/Charlotte Cemetery, and plan to do so at the Catholic and Germanville cemeteries. Hopefully that will be completed this summer.
I am also always looking for help to immortalize our town on the net, so if you would like to help please email me.
If you wish to have some of your family history added, or town history, or if you just have a question or comment or correction, please email me at

Besides genealogy, I enjoy writing poetry and used to draw a lot. Please read "My Poetry Page", if you're interested in that sort of thing !!!

Thanks so much for checking out my site and feel free to email me or sign my "Guest Book".
