Charlotte Lumae, M.Ed.

I am a creative, experienced independent teacher. I tutor people of all ages and abilities, both online (via Zoom and Minecraft) and in person at my office in downtown Forest Grove, Oregon.

I specialize in multi-sensory learning, with an emphasis on visual and hands-on work. I use an eclectic approach, taking care to incorporate the strengths and interests of each individual student. I teach multiple subjects for Kinder through Middle School, math through High School Algebra I & Geometry, SAT/ACT test prep, and writing through college. I also teach beginning bike and scooter skills for all ages. I work with parents and teachers to raise awareness of neurodiversity, and help adults manage their own anxiety around math and writing, so they can better help students succeed in school. As an Autistic self-advocate, I also do guest talks about Autistic experience for healthcare professionals and teachers, and peer mentor for the Autistic community and other people with social and/or sensory processing differences.

For students and mentees, my first question is: What works for you? I will model self-advocacy and let you know what works for me. I keep my phone ringer off while working with clients, and I do not use voicemail, so text message or email are the best ways to contact me. I am glad to plan a time to talk by phone, on Zoom, or in person. The first consultation is free.

In 2023 I am celebrating 12 years of business in Forest Grove, and 5 years at my office downtown. I am a sole proprietor in Forest Grove, OR under license #BL-000424, Charlotte Lumae, M. Ed.

I have worked in the field of education since 1993. After completing my BA in Art at the University of California at Berkeley, I prepared for my teaching credential in Early Childhood & Elementary Education at Humboldt State University, and later completed my Master of Education and Cultural Competency Certificate from Pacific University.

I also volunteer with Autism Society of Oregon Forest Grove Game Club, Oregon Commission on Autism Subcommittee for Individual Interventions, Strategies, & Supports,  Western WashCo for Racial Justice, and the Police Policy subcommittee of the Forest Grove Community Policing Advisory Commission (CPAC).
