Save Our Bees! Join CABA!

Honey bees are primarily responsible for pollinating nearly one third of all the food crops we eat. Over the past several years, the number of honey bee colonies has declined from approximately 5.5 million to less than 2.4 million colonies and this year the numbers continue to decline. Research is required to help identify factors responsible for what is being referred to as "Colony Collapse Disorder" (CCD) and to find environmentally-friendly solutions to eliminate pests like the small hive beetle that are responsible for destroying many South Carolina and southeastern hives.

Join CABA! You can help save the bees! New members are welcome to join or make a donation to support efforts of Charleston Area Beekeepers Association (CABA). Donations are welcome; annual membership dues to join Charleston Area Beekeepers Association (CABA) is $30 and a check payable to "CABA" can be mailed with membership form to CABA at PO Box 1982, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. Ten dollars or 1/3 of each CABA membership is allocated to South Carolina Beekeepers Association, our State organization, which conducts research as well as provides educational support for local organizations.

SCBA funds are used in a variety of ways to support bees and to teach best practices to beekeepers. The association hosts two annual conferences where bee lovers and beekeepers can attend various educational classes and presentations by experts such as top researchers from USDA bee labs.  Funds are allocated to underwrite research projects through a cooperative with Clemson University located in Clemson, South Carolina. Visit the Apiculture site to learn more about the honey bee / apiculture program.
