Charles Kang is an assistant professor at the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He received a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Concentration: Marketing) from the Smeal College of Business, Pennsylvania State University.
His research focuses on dynamic empirical modeling of issues related to strategic marketing with a special interest in sustainability, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and advertising media strategy. His paper with Frank Germann (University of Notre Dame) and Rajdeep Grewal (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) "Washing Away Your Sins? Corporate Social Responsibility, Corporate Social Irresponsibility, and Firm Performance," was published in the Journal of Marketing. Also, he worked on the research project on organizational advertising spending and media choice decisions, and the paper with Hari Sridhar (Texas A&M University), Frank Germann, and Rajdeep Grewal was published at the Journal of Marketing. He is currently working on several other projects in these domains.
As an instructor, he teaches undergraduate level International Marketing classes at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee since the Fall of 2016. In addition, he has taught several undergraduate and graduate-level courses at the A.B. Freeman School of Business and the Smeal College of Business: Marketing (MKTG 6020-01 Master of Management & MKTG 6020-21 & 22 Professional MBA; Fall 2015 & Spring 2016), Marketing Research (MKTG 342 Undergraduate; Summer 2012, Spring 2015), Global Marketing (MKTG 445 Undergraduate; Fall 2012, Spring 2014), and Consumer Behavior (MKTG 330 Undergraduate; Summer 2014, Spring 2015).
Prior to his Ph.D. at Penn State, Charles received his master's in Statistics from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his BA in Business Administration and BS in Applied Statistics from Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing and watching sports games, especially basketball and soccer. He is a big San Antonio Spurs fan, and he is proud of their fifth NBA championship in 2014 after tragic loss to Miami Heat in 2013.
