Non-Qualification; First English Song for Thailand
December 22, 2013 @ 12:20 AM
Thailand did not qualify for the Grand Final of SOSC#7 and came in 12th Place (third to last) in the Semi-Final, and Australia was disqualified for non-voting. With 128 Points, Denmark won with "Curtain Call" by Bryan Rice feat. Julie. This includes 7 Points from Thailand.
The 8th Edition will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark at Parken Stadium. "We Are Limitless" is the slogan, and Casper Christensen and Camilla Ottesen are the hosts. Ida Corr will be the green room/backstage host. Tata Young's 2009 single, "My Bloody Valentine," from her album, Ready for Love, will be the first Thai entry in the Sing Out Song Contest to be completely sung in the English language. The song reached #1 on two Thai radio charts: 95.5 Virgin Soft Chart and Eazy FM 105.5. After four poor results, the Thai delegation had to think of better ways to appeal to the SOSC jury and audience. Tata Young has had some success with her other singles around Asia, including Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan, and India, so Charles is confident that she will bring Thailand's first good result in SOSC. Charles sent Young previously to the now inactive Planet Earth Song Contest where she received 14th Place. She was one of only two local Thai singers to qualify in Thailand's one year participation in PESC.
Streak of Bad Luck Continues for Thailand; Kamikaze Girl Group for SOSC#7
December 2, 2013 @ 7:04 PM
Thailand once again finished in second to last place in the 6th Edition of the Sing Out Song Contest. Thailand received 2 Points from South Korea, 3 Points from the Czech Republic, 4 Points from Croatia, and 5 Points from Romania. The winner was the United Kingdom with "The Silence" by Alexandra Burke with 114 Points. Thailand gave this entry 4 Points.
Roberto, the British head of delegation, has chosen Liverpool, United Kingdom as the host city for SOSC#7. The venue is the Echo Arena with "Ignite Your Emotions" as the slogan. Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams are the hosts. Thailand will open the Semi-Final and will compete for one of ten available spots in the Grand Final. The host country and Top 9 (excluding the host country) have automatically qualified to the Grand Final. The Thai entry is "Aep" by Kiss Me Five, which previously competed in the canceled 21st Edition of the Planet Earth Song Contest. "Aep" translates to "To Act or Look Cute" and is from the 2012 album, Showtime. Kiss Me Five is from the record label, Kamikaze, which represents artists who are teenagers and young adults. Kitty is a former member, leaving Kiss Me Five as a four-piece girl group.
Justin, the Executive Supervisor of SOSC, has decided to go back to using the previous SOSC Google Sites website as it is "more user-friendly" than the SOSC Wikispaces website. Commentators and spokespersons are also no longer needed as only few heads of delegations have been sending them.
Pop Pongkool for SOSC#6
October 29, 2013 @ 5:57 PM
There was much delay in starting the 6th Edition of the Sing Out Song Contest as Justin (SOSC Executive Supervisor/HOD United States) did some traveling, but now voting has started and will end on Wednesday, November 6, 2013. SOSC#6 is being held in Barcelona, Spain.
Pop Pongkool's "Rak Tae Yoo Neua Gaan Waylaa" is Thailand's entry, which is the theme song of Part 1 of the drama series, Suparburoot Jutathep, which is divided into five parts following five brothers. Part 1 follows Khun Chai Taratorn. The other parts have the same theme song but are sung by different artists. Charles would like to thank his Thai friend, Peach, who suggested this song back in March. Pongkool is part of the duo, Calories Blah Blah. Thailand is last in the running order of SOSC#6. In the last two editions (SOSC#4 and #5), the winning entry came after Thailand in the running order, so it will be interesting to see who will win this edition.
Charles also sent in Anne Thongprasom and Two Popetorn as commentator and spokesperson, respectively, but it seems that they are no longer needed as names of commentators and spokespersons have been removed from the individual country pages on the Sing Out Song Contest website.
Another Horrible Result for Thailand
October 2, 2013 @ 11:13 PM
The delegation of Thailand is once again very, very disappointed as Two Popetorn's "Poot Tammai" finished in second to last place in the 5th Edition of the Sing Out Song Contest. Several countries did vote for Thailand: Jordan, Finland, United States, Spain, South Korea, Norway, and Japan. 10 Points were given by Spain, who also happened to be the winning country. HODs are still waiting for details about deadlines for sending entries for SOSC#6.
Disappointing Debut for Thailand!
September 5, 2013 @ 11:41 PM
The Thai delegation is very unhappy with its last place finish in SOSC#4. Out of 22 countries that competed, only two voted for Thailand: host country, Greece, which gave Thailand 7 Points and South Korea with 1 Point. Thailand's favorite entry was from Hungary, and it became the winner with 105 Points. The next edition (SOSC#5) will be held in the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
Thailand hopes its next participant will do well in the next edition. Charles has chosen Two Popetorn's 2012 single, "Poot Tammai." It reached #3 on the Top 10 Chart of Seed Radio 97.5 on December 29, 2012. Its official English title is "Don't Say That You Do." This entry previously competed in the now inactive Planet Earth Song Contest in the 18th Edition where Charles was also the HOD of Thailand. It failed to reach the Grand Final, but Charles still believes that it is a strong song, so he decided to send it to SOSC#5. Popetorn, whose full name is Popetorn Soonthornyanakij, was a coach on the Thai version of The Voice Kids in 2013. Jessica Amornkuldilok will provide commentary for the Thai live broadcast of the contest and Lula will present the Thai voting results.
New Sections
August 23, 2013 @ 5:15 PM
SOSC#4 is still going strong with the voting deadline on August 27. Here, Thailand is competing in Draw#17. In the meantime, Charles is currently working on new sections for the SOSC Thailand website. One will be about commentators and the other about spokespersons.
Thailand Will Debut in SOSC#4 in Greece
August 9, 2013 @ 9:24 PM
Thailand is happy to announce that it will be debuting in the 4th Edition of the Sing Out Song Contest, which will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece. Right now, submissions are still open, and dates for the contest will be announced. Charles would like to thank Justin for accepting his application for Thailand and for continuing the format of SOSC, which makes the contest come to life!
Lula feat. Sin will represent Thailand with "Mai Mee Arai Tee Bpen Bpai Mai Daai" from Lula's 2012 album, Spring. The official English song title is "Possible." Lula's full name is Kanyarat Tiyapornchai, and Sin's is Tossaporn Achawanuntagul. Sin is also commonly credited as Sin Singular, because he is the lead singer, songwriter, and co-producer of the duo called Singular.
Charles would like to thank his Thai friend, Peach, for suggesting this song back in March. At that time, the song was very popular in Thailand, and she described it as a touching song.
