TWMC#13 Results; Film Music for TWMC#14

Romania was declared the winner of the Eurovision Edition of TWMC#13, which came as a big shock to the Italian delegation. Italy did not qualify for the Grand Final and finished in 8th Place in Semi-Final 3. Italy received maximum 12 Points from Iran and Finland.

The 14th Edition of The World Music Contest is being held in Stadionul Municipal in Sibiu, Romania with Selena Gomez and Mila Kunis as hosts. The theme is Film Music, and Italy has sent "50 Mila" by Nina Zilli from the 2010 comedy movie, Mine Vaganti. Italy is performing in the #2 spot in Semi-Final 3. This is the third time in a row that Italy is competing in Semi-Final 3. Zilli came in 9th Place for Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. The film received excellent reviews and earned 13 nominations at the David di Donatello Awards, including 2 wins (Best Supporting Actor for Ennio Fantastichini and Best Supporting Actress for Ilaria Occhini).

TWMC#12 Results; Artist for Eurovision Edition

In Semi-Final 3, there were three countries that received 90 Points each for the top spot: Italy, Israel, and Switzerland, so rules for a tie were applied. Israel received points from fourteen countries compared to thirteen each for Italy and Switzerland, so Israel was declared 1st Place. Three sets of maximum 12 Points were given to Switzerland while two were given to Italy, so Switzerland got 2nd, and Italy got 3rd. In the Grand Final, Italy and Mexico both received 118 Points each, but Italy received 12th Place and Mexico got 13th. Italy got votes from twenty-one countries while twenty voted for Mexico. The winner of TWMC#12 was Australia with 184 Points including the 7 Points from Italy. Charles's favorite, Panama, got second to last.

The 13th Edition of The World Music Contest will be held in Perth, Australia at the Perth Arena with Rose Byrne and Chris Hemsworth as presenters. The theme is Non-Winning Eurovision Songs. While Nick (TWMC Manager/HOD Belgium) made this rule clear, some players attempted to send "Satellite," "Euphoria," and "Only Teardrops," which were Eurovision winners in 2010, 2012, and 2013, respectively.

Italy's representative will be Marco Mengoni with "L'essenziale," which won the Sanremo Music Festival 2013 and went on to finish in a respectable 7th Place in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013. Mengoni rose to fame when he won Italy's version of X Factor in 2009. Italy will perform in the #11 spot in Semi-Final 3.

Italy Back in the Grand Final

#7 proved to be a lucky spot for Italy as Emma Marrone has qualified for the Grand Final! Other qualifiers from Semi-Final 3 were Panama, Israel, Switzerland, Denmark, and Estonia. The funky loser ended up being Fiji, who also performed in the 3rd Semi-Final. The Italian delegation is ecstatic, since Italy did not qualify for the past two editions. Also, the Belgian delegation is now saddened that its 100% qualification record has been broken! The Grand Final will start tomorrow, October 15, 2013, and Italy has chosen to perform 9th in the running order.

Hello Monaco

Monaco won the Grand Final of TWMC#11 but did not receive any points from Italy. Iceland, Poland, and Romania were disqualified for non-voting. Vittorio Grigolo got 8th Place for Italy in Semi-Final 2. The highest point value Italy received was 10 Points from Israel. The 12th Edition of The World Music Contest is being held in Monaco at the Sporting Club Monte Carlo with Stéphanie de Monaco and Louis Ducruet as hosts. Emma Marrone for Italy will perform in Semi-Final 3 in the #7 spot. Will this lucky number bring a good result for Italy?

42 countries have already voted for the Grand Final of the 11th Edition of The World Music Contest. 6 countries still need to vote before the deadline, Wednesday, September 25, 2013. It will be interesting to see what place Vittorio Grigolo got in the 2nd Semi-Final!

Italy will send Emma Marrone to the Female Artists edition of TWMC#12 with her song, "Tra Passione e Lacrime," which means "Among Passion and Tears." This 2011 single peaked at #42 on the FIMI Singles Chart. Marrone was the winner of Amici di Maria De Filippi in 2010 and the Sanremo Music Festival 2012.

The 10 previous winners of the first 10 editions of The World Music Contest competed in a Superfinal, and the winner was Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn," which previously competed with Denmark in TWMC#9. Here were the rankings:

The theme of TWMC#12 is Female Artists. After a poll, it was decided that songs from the Eurovision Song Contest are no longer allowed to compete in TWMC unless it is part of the theme. 29% voted YES to keep Eurovision songs while 71% voted NO. Italy was in the minority and voted YES.

Italy Not in Final for 2nd Time in a Row

For the second time in a row, Italy has not qualified for the Grand Final. 5 out of 6 qualifiers from Semi-Final 2 of TWMC#11 were in Italy's Top 10. Voting for the Grand Final will begin on September 15. Italy has already prepared its votes, and 3 out of 6 qualifiers from Semi-Final 2 have remained in Italy's Top 10 entries.

The HODs are waiting to hear who has won the Superfinal of TWMC#1-10 as well as the theme of TWMC#12, but it is known that it will be a Eurovision-free edition.

Results of TWMC#10 and More!

The winner of TWMC#10 is Latvia, which received 0 Points from Italy. TWMC#11 will be held in Arēna Rīga in Riga, Latvia. Ingūna Butāne and Lauris Reiniks will be the hosts. Italy has been selected to compete in Semi-Final 2 in Draw #6.

Italy received a total of 49 Points in Semi-Final 1 of TWMC#10 and finished in 11th Place. It didn't qualify for the Grand Final, and some players were not happy with this including Nick, the TWMC Manager and HOD Belgium. Nick is not a fan of Italian music, but he gave Italy 7 Points and expressed to Charles how disappointed he was that Italy did not qualify!

Along with TWMC#11, there will be a Superfinal for TWMC#1-10 to determine the best winner among the first 10 winners of TWMC! Voting is scheduled to begin on September 1.

Italy's Entry for TWMC#11

While waiting for more votes in the Grand Final of TWMC#10, Italy would now like to reveal its entry for TWMC#11 which has the theme of National Artists. The songs can be in any language.

Vittorio Grigolo will represent Italy. Grigolo is an operatic tenor who was born in Arezzo but raised in Rome. He is the first Italian male to be exempted from mandatory military service due to his promising operatic career. For TWMC#11, he will sing "Cosi," an Italian language cover of Keane's "Bedshaped." It's from his 2006 album, In the Hands of Love.

Tatangelo Out!

Unfortunately, Italy was not one of the lucky qualifiers from Semi-Final 1 of TWMC#10 and was not selected as a Funky Loser, so Anna Tatangelo is officially out of the competition! Sad news for the Italian delegation but the good news was that 5 out of 6 qualifiers from the 1st Semi-Final were voted by Italy and in fact were Italy's Top 5. Voting for the Grand Final starts tomorrow, and Charles cannot reveal exactly who Italy will be voting for, but he can confirm that Italy's Top 5 countries in Semi-Final 1 are also in Italy's Top 5 for the Grand Final. Good luck to everybody!

Heading to Denmark for TWMC#10

TWMC#9 has just ended, and Italy made a strong showing by finishing in 3rd Place in Semi-Final 3 and 8th Place in the Grand Final. A big THANK YOU to everyone who voted for "Time to Say Goodbye" by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. The WINNER was DENMARK with "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia who received 217 Points in the Grand Final and received 8 Points from Italy. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Charles is impressed at how fast all the results were posted and information for TWMC#10 has already been revealed THANKS to Nick, the TWMC Manager. It will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark at Parken Stadium and will be hosted by Mathias Lauridsen and Lene Nystrom. Denmark had the advantage of picking the running order and Italy has been chosen to compete in Semi-Final 1 in Draw #11. TWMC#10 is a free edition with Eurovision songs being prohibited.

Italy is sending the song, "Sensi," by Anna Tatangelo, which is her 2011 single from the album, Progetto B. Tatangelo is known for her pop music and has competed 6 times in the Sanremo Music Festival. She won the Newcomers category in 2002 with "Doppiamente Fragili" and the Women category in 2006 with "Essere Una Donna." Hope you enjoy!
