It is so far away, and not. We're four years on from the moment I took this pic, and at that time there was the scare of the bombings, the attacks, although everyone assured me that this was just a faint shadow of the evils that happened not so many years earlier. At the same time there was this strange sense of normalcy, the traffic jams on the road to Val d'Hydra, the advertisement for the well-known consumer goods and the familiar sound of Nokia ringtones all over the place. The message was: be careful, stay in your golden cage, safely behind the metal detector and the X-ray scanners, and the guards that let the taxi drivers open their boots and hoods so they can percursory glance underneath before they are allowed onto the hotel driveway. There was this beautiful country, and this magnificent town, so close, so far away. I managed my escape, I saw the real life, the real people on a few occassions, but way to little. They say the country is waking up, the state of emergency will be lifted, and poor old Boutef' will go away. Things happen, Algeria is a place prone to change, and things may quite go for the better, but in order to do so people need to keep their heads cool. And that, I learned, is not something evident. I wish you luck and wisdom, my friends.
I Love Katamari
I Love Katamari
My newest game addiction. Here's my addiction profile. I see a game, most often introduced by a friend or students. I consider whether I have 10-15% time overhead to immerse myself in the whole experience - playing, googling tricks, staying up an hour past my bed time to play, etc. If the result of that analysis yields in the affirmative, I get the game and let myself spiral into the oblivion of the game's addictive qualities. You wake up thinking about the game, you hum sound samples and change the ringtone on your phone, most indexical references to things are associated with the game ("sure, i understand this whole china monetary policy problem. it's like in katamari damacy when the watermelon is too big.") This addiction lasts probably three weeks in its most intense mode, and then becomes less compelling over time until the day when someone asks "are you still all hopped-up over that game?", and you feel slightly embarrassed about the whole experience.

The Uniden DECT2080-3 DECT 6.0 Cordless Digital Answering System includes a base station, two charging cradles, and three handsets. The result is less interference, more range, and better security. The built-in digital answering machine has a recording time of 14 minutes.
Each handset can hold up to 100 phonebook entries, displayed on the three-line backlit LCD. Caller ID is supported, and with call waiting caller ID you can see who's calling even when you are already on the line. The DECT2080-3 comes with three handsets and can be expanded to a total of six handsets working with the single base. A conference feature lets you hold a three-way conversation between your handset, an external caller, and another handset user. A speakerphone is built into the handset, rather than the base, so you can bring the speakerphone with you wherever you go. The handset features up to 16 hours of talk time and a 10-day standby.
