The Chama Valley Outdoor Club is an organization that supports muscle-powered sports in the Chama Valley of northern New Mexico.  We are a 100% volunteer organization with no paid staff. Our mission is to provide more opportunities for non-motorized recreation in the greater Chama area.

Our goals are:

  • to promote healthy winter outdoor activities such as cross country skiing and snowshoeing
  • to promote healthy summer outdoor activities such as hiking and biking
  •  to foster an appreciation of low impact recreation on public lands

Organized in January of 2011 to expand muscle-powered recreation opportunities in the greater Chama area, CVOC has targeted winter sports as priority number one. We are maintaining ski and snowshoe trails at the Edward Sargent Wildlife Area.  We have accomplished a motorized winter closure at Windy Point, site of the popular Chama Chile Ski Classic.  This beautiful 550 acre winter wonderland is just a mile south of 10,200 foot Cumbres Pass.

CVOC is all about experiencing the wonders of the Chama Valley, from the high forested mountains of Cumbres Pass to the beautiful high desert colors of the Piedre Lumbre country north of Abiquiu.  Our members are outdoor enthusiasts who love to share a wide array of activities – hiking, mountain biking, water craft, skiing, snowshoeing, and exploring the natural and human history of our valley.  Check out the events calendar on this website to learn more.

Please consider joining us!   Your membership helps expand and network the active valley community, encourages all of us to get out there, be healthy and celebrate this place we call home!
