The purpose of the program is to gain knowledge about the interaction between different visual analytic (VA) techniques and types of data, while at the same time providing students with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in visual data analysis.
What is Visual Analytics?
Students in the Challenge group will be involved in things like:
- exploratory data analysis
- hypothesis testing and analytic reasoning
- VA tool evaluation and development
- web scraping and other data harvesting techniques
- text parsing and natural language processing
The group itself meets once a week at UBC to give tool demos, data workshops, and for general discussion and problem solving on the several analysis projects and VA in general.
How to get Involved:
Students can get involved by collaborating on one of the Current Projects or by suggesting their own project. Course credit can also be given through a directed studies research project or 402 class.
If you'd like to get involved please contact the VA manager at challenge(at)viva-viva.ca.
The Andew Wade VA Challenge program is a student-focused branch of VIVA (Vancouver Institute for Visual Analytics).
