I am Chad Gesser.  I maintain this website for my colleagues and students, and as a way to share a little about my experiences and interests.

I am Associate Professor of Sociology at the Owensboro Community and Technical College.  I use a lot of technology in the classroom, with students, and in my personal life and endeavors.  I teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.

My scholarly interests straddle the academic and objective observation and study of society, with interest in applied learning and social change.

I am a native Kentuckian, born and raised in Owensboro, Kentucky.  I've also lived in New Orleans, Louisiana; St. Louis, Missouri; Bowling Green, Kentucky; and briefly in Mexico.  I hold my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Kentucky Wesleyan College and my Master of Arts in Sociology from Western Kentucky University.

The defining opportunity of my collegiate experience  which led to my research and teaching career was the field study I conducted in Mexico for completion of my master's thesis. My thesis (Neoliberalism and NAFTA: A Case Study of the Coffee Commodity System and Huatusco, Veracruz, Mexico) was conducted in the field at the Universidad Autonoma de Chapingo near Mexico City, Mexico and in the community of Huatusco, Veracruz, Mexico.  Check out some pictures from my time there by clicking here.
