The Issues and Advocacy Group*

The Issues and Actions Group looks at current issues: local, national and international. The group develops action plans to start the ball rolling to get individuals, our own CFUW, and other local groups working toward bettering our world. If you have burning issues you’d like to put forward for consideration and you like lively discussion that can lead to action, this is the group for you.

The Walking Group*

Walkers meet on Fridays at 9:30 am in the parking lot of the Apple Bowl on the corner of Burtch and Bernard. Alternately walkers go directly to the trailhead.
Carpooling is encouraged and the members show their appreciation by contributing to the cost of gas.The schedule is chosen by the group and circulated by the leader who will include directions and the coffee venue. Newcomers are always welcome.

Walks last about an hour and suit those who like an easy to moderate challenge. The walks may be in Kelowna, Lake Country or West Kelowna. Twice a year we try to go further afield and include lunch, eg Lynden Gardens in Kaleden or Zia’s in Summerland.
Leaders always carry a cell phone.
We usually have coffee afterwards. Occasionally we are invited to someone's house but there is no obligation to stay for coffee. Some people just come for coffee.

The Knitting Group*

The knitting group meets monthly, usually on the 3rd Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in various member's home.
We knit, chat, laugh, share patterns and expertise, because "knitting is good for your brain". You can bring your own project to work on or you can work on group projects such as afghans to raffle, felted animals and felted hats for sale. Proceeds go towards bursaries for students attending pot-secondary education in our region.
Last year we raised over $?? from the sale of felted hats and soft animals and gave 25 hand knitted scarves to Canadian Mental Health Kelowna.

Couples/Singles Dining In*

Celebrating more than 20 years of Dining - We strive for fun and informality.

Couples and singles in this group take turns hosting informal dinner parties, usually on the last weekend of the month. The hostess organizes the menu and theme (if any) and tells her guests what food to bring. The key word is "fun and informality". The hostess sets the date but it it is quite flexible but usually towards the end of the month.

These home dinners are held in October, November, February, March and April, with January and May being held at a restraurant.

Ladies Dining Out*

This group meets on the 1st Thursday of each month, usually at 5.30 p.m.  The restaurant for the next month is decided by the group at each dinner.

Out to Lunch Bunch*

This group meets at a different restaurant on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 11:45 a.m. The purpose is to sample the offerings of our local restaurants and to enjoy each others’ company.
There is a sign-up sheet for each month. All are welcome and the leaders rotate.

Book Chain*

We may seem unsociable but we love to read! No meetings, no discussion. Instead, we each read a different book between club meetings then pass it down the chain. We pay for one book, read eight! In May at our annual potluck we draw for a book to keep. We’re now taking names for the waiting list - sign up for a place in the chain. Cost is shared equally. Link to book titles for 2017/18 at bottom of page.

Afternoon Book Group*

This group meets the 2nd Thursday of each month, usually at 2.00 pm, at various members' homes. Books are chosen in the spring. Everyone is welcome to come and join the discussion.

Morning Book Group*

The Morning Book Discussion Group meets the last Tuesday of the month at 9:30 am. to discuss a book chosen from a list selected in teh previous May.

The Bridge Group*

The ladies’ afternoon bridge meets at 12 noon every 2nd Monday in members’ homes. We bring our own sandwich and the hostess provides coffee, tea, and dessert. Skill level is not important.

Craft Group*

The craft group meets in members’ homes on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 2 p.m. to do a variety of handicrafts. Recently they have been picking a project which can benefit a community group such as Meals on Wheels;they have produced some attractive table favours. They are always open to new ideas and anxious to learn different skills!

Adopt-A-Road Group*

CFUW Kelowna has a contract with the City to clean up 2 roads in October and April. The group meets at the Parkinson Recreation Centre parking lot (parking spots closest to Hwy #97 near the overpass exit) at 9.30 to carpool to Weddell Place and Poplar Point Drive. Coffee following!

Golf Group*

The Golf Group plays at different courses around Kelowna and the surrounding area.
Come and have fun with us next year starting in May and going as long as the weather co-operates and the interest is there. Usually we play 9 holes.
