Biography

I have a B.Sc. from the University of Lavras (UFLA), Brazil (2004, Agriculture), a M.Sc. from the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil (2006, Soil and Plant Nutrition) and a Ph.D. from the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG), Netherlands (2011, Microbial Ecology).

My interest is in the functioning of microorganisms interacting with plants, with emphasis in the properties of plant growth-promoting microbes. I have been involved in studies of: i) host transcriptome (macro-array) in sugarcane - mycorrhizae interaction; ii) identification (mainly by 16S rRNA gene sequencing), functional properties (metagenome) and ecological traits (PCR-DGGE, Biolog, physiological tests) of bacterial communities associated with rice root tissues. Recently, I have learned to apply several bioinformatics tools for pyrosequencing analysis (e.g. QIIME), RNA-seq annotation (e.g. Bowtie and Trinity for short read alignment, SOAP for mapping, Blast2GO for functional annotation, bioconductor for gene expression analysis) and general data analysis (R with several libraries).
