Radhakrishna Pillai, Director of the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) at Thiruvananthapuram is a recognized external guide at the Centre for Bioinformatics. He has a PhD in tumor immunology and a post-doctoral fellowship in molecular biology and immunopharmacology from the University of Arizona. He is also the President of the Society of Biotechnologists, India and a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, London, and the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore. For his outstanding contributions to cancer research & medical biotechnology, he was honored with National Bioscience Career Award, Dept. of Biotechnology, Govt. of India (2003); Indian Council of Medical Research Sandoz Oration Award (2000); and Indian Council of Medical Research Raja Ravi Sher Singh Award (1991). He is an expert on human papillomavirus & cervical cancer and also has interest in clinical proteomics, nanobiotechnology, drug development and cardio-vascular genetics. Dr. Pillai is known for his strong views on translational research and application of `bench to bedside' concepts, taking research findings into public health domain. To his credit he has over 140 research publications. He has produced 13 PhDs and has 10 ongoing PhD students. He currently supervises a PhD student at this centre in Cancer Informatics.
