Central McDougall—Edmonton's most livable community

posted Apr 10, 2018, 10:49 AM by Scott Rollans

A pair of U of A student researchers analyzed City of Edmonton data to rank neighbourhoods according to livability, based on the needs of millennials. Their study looked at factors including things like bike lanes, walkability, transit, recreation, schools, and restaurants.

Their top pick? “I would honestly start with Central McDougall. It’s close to a tonne of amenities. It’s walkable, close to downtown and also relatively affordable.”

Other inner-city neighbourhoods also ranked near the top of their list, including McCauley and Spruce Avenue. The study clearly challenges preconceptions about what makes a neighbourhood desirable.

The students compared their list to Avenue Magazine's annual ranking of Edmonton's top ten neighbourhoods, and found the magazine's list largely out of whack with the actual needs of young Edmontonians (Oliver being the only community on both lists).

Storage unit proposed in JAM school yard

posted Feb 14, 2018, 10:39 AM by Scott Rollans

REACH Edmonton has distributed the following Notice of Intent:

Notice of Intent: Central McDougall Neighbourhood Owner/Resident

This Notice of Intent is to all Central McDougall residents who live in close proximity to John A. McDougall School located at 10930-107 Street.  For the past year both REACH Edmonton along with Central McDougall Parents Group have been working closely with John A. McDougall School in the placement of a permanent container unit for community recreation and gardening equipment storage.

The location of the container is illustrated below and will be separate from the school while still being attached alongside the gymnasium wall on the south side.  Sightlines and lightning will be maintained with safety and security in mind.

We would like to hear from residents living adjacent to the park about their thoughts and ideas for these upgrades.  To provide feedback, please email at info@reachedmonton.ca or call 780-498-1231.

The timeline for installation is spring 2018.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
