Sewanee- The University of the South
Sewanee is a private, liberal arts college located on the edge of the Tennessee Valley, making it a very scenic campus. Because it is in this area, it is isolated and very much so in rural, rather than in a college town or in a city. The campus owns 13,000 acres of this land, making it one large campus. Despite the large campus, there is not so large a number of students-only about 17 hundred. Also because Sewanee is a very isolated college due to location, 99% of students do live on campus.

University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK)
The University of Tennessee at Knoxville was founded in 1974 2 years before Tennessee entered the union. In many ways, it can be viewed as the opposite of Sewanee. There is a very large body of students, almost 22 thousand students! It is not a private liberal arts college, but instead a public university. It is located in Knoxville, Tennessee, about 3 hours from Nashville. This makes the school a good option if you want to remain close to home, but don't want to be too close.Statistics:
Vanderbilt University
Located in the heartland of Tennessee in Nashville, Vanderbilt is a private college established in 1873. It was named so after Cornelius Vanderbilt who donated a good sum of money to the school in hopes it would help heal Civil War Wounds. The campus is more centrally located in the city on a 330 acre campus; however sometimes it is easy to forget that you are even in a city since the campus is surrounded by a multitude of various trees and shrubbery. Even though Vanderbilt is in the middle of Nashville, a huge majority of students do live on campus.
