Madelyn Mansfield, Class of 2019
“I’m really stressed about the spoon game. I thought it wasn’t going to be that bad because I’m smaller and stealthier than the person who’s after me, but during lunch today I walked in and he made eye contact with me across the cafeteria. I had to sprint around the school and go in circles just to get to my classes. He was even outside outside of my 6th period class 15 minutes before the bell rang, his face looking in through the little window. Senora Pinson said ‘tranquila chica!’ and closed the blinds because I was about to cry! I had to run through the parking lot to get to the strings room. Then I hid in the back until you got here.”

On school
“The most stressful part about school right is trying to balance my work with my friends. I want to talk to people and maintain my relationships, but if I talk too much then I fall behind in school work. I keep on going in a cycle of the two.”
On playing violin
“I had always wanted to play it since I was five years old, but at first my mom thought it was too expensive. She wanted me to play piano instead. But I’d always seen people playing violin and heard music with it, and I just fell in love with it. “
