Day 197: Looking back...
Day 197: Looking back...
So, the title of "Looking back..." is for 2 reasons. One, it's hard to believe it's only been a month since I was in Ireland. Two, holy crap. I'm way behind on updating Flickr. Fortunately, I have been taking the pictures... I've just haven't been working on the pictures. Plus, I still have all these pictures from the Ireland to still update. I mean, I'm on Day 3 of the trip with this picture... wow. I'm just glad I have a holiday weekend to get this all up-to-date. So Day 3: After our first actual night's rest in Ireland, we had an amazing breakfast at the bed & breakfast (which means it won with both of its advertised amenities :-P), and while we packed, we were treated to Gaelic children's shows, including Gaelic Sesame Street! We drove to the Dingle Peninsula, which is the western most point of Europe ("next parish Boston" or so the saying goes). Well, first we stopped at Inch Beach for lunch and pictures. Then we drove the Dingle Peninsula road. There were a bunch of beehive caves, sheep pastures, and rocky slopes, but it was a good drive. We definitely took our time (a little too much time on the first half). This picture is on the cliffs looking over one of the beaches on the peninsula. My mom told us about the scene from "Ryan's Daughter" that was shot here. It doesn't have the same feel with other tourists/travelers and with a paved road, but I can only imagine how scary a storm would be here. After our peninsula drive, we stuck around in Dingle, had a grocery store dinner, napped (we were still getting over jet lag), and went to a pub with a three-piece group (a singer/guitar, banjo, and accordion). Overall, it was the best traditional Irish group/music we heard the entire trip, since the pubs/cafes/hotels/etc played American 90's music. There was Internet at the Marina Lodge where we stayed, where I actually learned about two jobs in the States that basically opened themselves up again for me... I'll keep you in suspense there (well, my IRL friends already know). So yes, I'm still alive. I will update... the past month's worth of pictures this weekend... and I'm still taking them. That's for sure.
