Central Conference 2018 Theme

Crazy Peace ~Living In The Peace of God~

Theme Verse
Philippians 4:4-7
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

What is Central Conference?

Central Conference (CC) is a Christian retreat held by Japanese Christian Fellowship Network (JCFN) and volunteers mainly from the Midwest area. The vision of CC is the spiritual growth, encouragement, and networking of Japanese-speaking Christians. Each year, people of all ages attend CC, and the network has been expanding across the regions of North America including both East and West coasts and even Canada. At CC, there will be small group discussions, workshops of various topics as well as outdoor activities. English translation is available during main sessions through mobile application. We also provide childcare during each session for young children This year's theme is "Crazy Peace ~Living In The Peace of God~" from Philippians 4:4-7. We will have Pastor Tetsuo Ben Kagiwada from Los Angeles as a keynote speaker. What does "peace" mean to you? Our daily lives can sometimes be busy and overwhelming, causing us to feel anxious. But Philippians 4:4-7 tells us that God can provide us peace in ANY situation. Further, it tells us this peace isn't "peace" defined by our standards, rather it is unimaginable peace that surpasses our understanding.
Come join us in CC18 to learn how to experience this "Crazy Peace" from God!
As in the past, there will be workshops to cover different topics in addition to the sessions. Translation will be provided via mobil app (with cell phone, tablet, etc), and there will also be childcare. So English speakers and families are welcome! Seekers and people who are interested in Christianity and Bible teachings are welcome.

         Main Speaker
        Pastor Ben Kagiwada
From South Bay Holiness Church in Los Angeles
Born in Tokyo and raised in Ibaraki Prefecture, Pastor Ben first believed in Jesus when he was 5 years old and was baptized when he was 6. After graduating middle school, he joined the Japanese Air Force. There he was met by temptations, and unfortunately he went astray from the Church. When Pastor Ben became 18 and he encounters a transition. At this time he was a heavy smoker, but he had failed to quit smoking several times. At first, he wasn’t so concerned about this, but one day, the next question crosses his mind. “If I can't win against the temptation of a single cigarette, how can I win against any other temptations? If this goes on, I wouldn't be able to overcome any obstacles or temptations in life. Then wouldn't my life end in total defeat?” At this time, Pastor Ben was living in Shizuoka Prefecture, and a Christian friend from Tokyo invited him to visit Tokyo to meet him. One weekend, Pastor Ben went to Tokyo to meet this friend, and on Sunday morning he attended a Church Service for the first time in 3 years. The message during that service that day was one that gave clear answers to the questions Pastor Ben had in his heart. That day, God spoke to Pastor Ben’s heart and once again he decided to follow God. Later, Pastor Ben was able to join a pilot course and was relocated to a base in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Right after moving, he searched for a Church that he could attend, and he attended and served for Sunday school at Bofu Baptist Church, which he had found. However, during one Sunday service, God spoke to Pastor Ben’s heart. “Give up everything for me and become a pastor for my sheep”. As it was Pastor Ben’s long-held dream to become a pilot and he was so close to achieving this, he refused God’s call, but the calling placed in Pastor Ben’s heart did not go away during the entire service. By the time the service ended, he was determined to follow what God had commanded. The next morning, he submitted his letter of resignation, and after 2 weeks he started his path as a Pastor.

Later, Pastor Ben graduated a Bible College in Ibaraki Prefecture, then served as an Associate Pastor at Osaka, Tochigi, and Orange County, CA. Then he ministered 9 years at his Church in Ibaraki and 12 years in San Fernando Valley Holiness Church in California. Since 2009, he has been the Pastor at South Bay Holiness Church in Los Angeles.
