Cement industry is involved in the development of structure of the advanced and modern world but generates dust during its production leading to environmental problems. This also affects the systematic circulation thereby leads to maximum health hazards mostly to the workers in this profession.
Our project is a comparative study between the moulds of different compositions having these components – Cement, Sand, Coconut shells, water, lime, jaggery, polyethylene fibres and gravel. The control for different compositions was concrete.
The experiments we conducted were-
● Making of the sample.
● Analysis-by driving a car over a pit filled with cement composite.
● To find compressive strength of 3 moulds (Set 1)
● To find the compressive strength of another 3 moulds (Set 2).
● To find the thickness of coconut shell by using vernier caliper.
● To check whether the coconut shell soaked in water helps in curing.
● To find the tensile strength of 4 moulds by split cylinder test.
● To find the amount of water soaked by unit mass(40 gms) in unit time(1 hour).
We decided to take up this project ‘Cement Composite’ as cement is a mixture of chemicals which ultimately harms the soil. Our method involves the usage of coconut shells and polyethylene fibres which is a non-biodegradable waste which replaces same amount of cement and sand and conserves the soil as cement would harm the soil and affect plant growth.
Nowadays one of the major problems in the Indian Construction Industry is unavailability of raw materials, on the other side the main environmental problem is disposal of the waste plastics. (We are using 4.2 % less of cement and sand (By weight ) ).
