Format Your eBook for Kindle in One Hour - A Step-by-Step Guide
Format Your eBook for Kindle in One Hour - A Step-by-Step Guide
This book provides basic step-by-step instructions on how to format your ebook for Kindle so that you can publish it on Amazon and make it available for sale to the public. This book gives you the necessary steps to format your book as quickly as possible without using Amazon’s conversion tools. This book is not a reference guide that tells you every minute detail about formatting books for Kindle.

If you don’t want to pay to have some service convert a manuscript into the Kindle format, but you also don’t want to spend a lot of time on it yourself, then this book is for you. This is also for you if you don’t like the automatic conversion results that the Kindle tools provide. With this guide YOU determine where the page breaks are, how many line breaks between your chapter title and the start of the page, and so on.

The goal of this guide is to enable you to (relatively) quickly format your ebook in a simple fashion with cover art, copyright page, clickable table of contents, and chapter titles. So you aren’t overwhelmed, these instructions tell you how to format your ebook in one way, with minimal options. After you learn the instructions in this book, you should be able format your novel in about an hour, unless it’s very long.

This book includes a link to an HTML template that you can use for any Kindle ebook. You do NOT need to know HTML. You just need to replace some placeholder text to specify your book information in a text editor such as Notepad or Microsoft Expression.

You’ll also need to do some Find & Replace on your book in Word, plus some Copy & Paste.

These instructions tell you how to include the following in your ebook:
Line breaks
Page breaks
Links from one part of your book to another part of your book
Cover art
Copyright page
Links to any website (for web-capable devices)
Clickable table of contents
Chapter titles
Numbered and bulleted lists

Also included are instructions on how to zip your files for submission to Amazon DTP.

This eBook is published DRM-free.

IMPORTANT: Do not buy this book unless you want to publish your book to Amazon and make it available for the public to buy. If you just want to send your personal books or documents to your own Kindle, please follow the instructions in the Kindle User Guide.

Also, do not buy this book if you are content with the automated conversion tools that Amazon provides to authors and publishers. If you like the results you get from the conversion tools, you don’t need this book. I found that the conversion tools resulted in some strange formatting behavior with page breaks and line breaks, among other things, which is why I prefer to use this method.

Important: I wrote these instructions on a Windows PC system. These instructions have not been tested on a Mac system, although you should be able to modify them to work.

Large Format Child #3
Large Format Child #3
I've heard it's insane to take children's pictures with a large format camera. Sounds like a challenge to me! Strobist info: SB-28 in a shoot through umbrella, camera right, with the umbrella choked up to have some fall-off. Sunpak 333 in a cardboard snoot, camera left, as hair light. V-Card reflector made from 1.5" insulation foam, camera left (in front of subjects), for fill. Ebay triggers. Flash sync on the shutter (see below) was of the archaic two-prong variety, and I didn't have a converter. So I set the shutter to 'B', opened it, fired the strobes by hand using the radio remote, and then closed the shutter again. The backdrop is a simple white sheet, hung up in front of curtains, which cover a sliding glass door. Ambient light was dim, but obviously not too dim...there is a lot of evidence of shutter dragging and ghosting in these shots. I liked that though, and ultimately went with these, rather than the fully-flash-synced medium format shots I also took. Other info: Toyo-View C 4x5 camera, with Arista.edu Ultra ASA 100 film, developed in HC-110. Lens is a 6" Goerz Dagor. f/8. Homemade lens board, made out of wood. These are actual silver-gelatin prints (Arista.edu Ultra fiber semi-matte paper, 8x10).
Large Format Camera
Large Format Camera
Although a state of the art DSLR camera can now take 10 pictures per second and a large format camera would probably take you 10 minutes for one picture, I still value the use of a large format camera. Some may say it's because of its quality for large size printing sort of things, but I would say "it makes you think!!" Yes, digital camera is so easy to use and because there is no waste of film, we think less - we're less serious about the light meter reading, the composition, etc. before we click the shutter. We see what we got immediately on camera and take another one if it didn't work or we didn't like it. However, I don't think I will go back to use large format camera (since there are really a lot of adjusments before you click) but I'll think it as a "Photographical Contemplation" activity. Perhaps once in a while to let me feel the "root" of photography.
