I am Cecil Piya, a PhD graduate from the C-Design lab at Purdue University (School of Mechanical Engineering). My PhD research explored next generation 3D design modeling tools, with a focus on early-stage design, creative ideation, and accessibility to novice designers. Here, I develop new and exciting interactive systems involving (a) 3D user interfaces, (b) multi-modal interactions via tangible, mid-air, and on-the-surface inputs, and (c) freeform 3D design workflows. In the past I have also conducted research in areas such as digital 3D shape reconstruction for design and additive manufacturing, feature detection in mechanical parts, and object identification within 2D images. I am currently working as a CAD software developer in Solidworks R&D at Dassault Systemes.
