PVCC Dual Degree

Charlottesville High School is proud to have a strong partnership with Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC).  As part of our partnership, CHS offers several PVCC classes at CHS for college credit.  CHS and PVCC offer Dual Degree Programs in Biochemistry, Information Systems Technology, and Engineering.  This section will detail the pathways for students follow to earn a High School Diploma from CHS and an Associates Degree from PVCC in one of the areas listed above.  Students will apply to one of these programs at the end of the 9th grade year and take a combination of CHS and PVCC course on both campuses and online. 


Associate of Science Degree – Computer Science
Associate of Science Degree – Engineering
Associate of Science Degree – Physical and Natural Sciences, Specialization in Biotechnology
Career Studies Certificate-Computer Network Support Technologies
Associate of Science Degree - General Studies

There a number of ways to earn credits toward the associates degrees, including taking courses at PVCC, taking dual enrollment courses at CHS, taking online courses through PVCC and earning credit by making a 3 or higher on an AP exam, see PVCC AP credit chart taken from the PVCC 2013-14 Course Catalog here.

 Because there are a variety of ways to earn credits towards the associates degrees, students and their families will meet with the students’ school counselors to create an individualized program. Sample student schedules that can be used as a starting point when creating an individual plan for a student are linked below.
