Apex Square Dance
Friday, November 8, 8-10PM

Brought to you by your friends from the Apex Family Dance, we would like to welcome you to downtown Apex for a rollicking evening of traditional Southern Square Dances with your local caller and fantastic, live, old-time music. This foot-stomping, swinging, do-si-doing dance is geared toward grown ups and is fun for beginners and experienced dancers alike. Come alone, with friends or as a date with your honey.  Friday November 8th, 8-10PM at the Halle Center. $5/person.

Apex Family Dance Revival

posted Jan 28, 2019, 10:46 AM by Connie Carringer

After a bit of a break in 2018 with just a couple dances, we are bringing the Apex Family Dance. We will do a dance every other month through the spring and summer and return to monthly dance in September. It has been so nice to hear that our family dance friends have been asking for the dance to come back more often! I've missed it too. We kicked off 2019 with a great dance in January. We hope to see you at the next one on March 29, 2019.

Shifting Gears

Apparently it's been a while since I updated my announcements on this page! With the addition of a second baby girl in 2017, life has been beautifully full. I've changed careers to doing birth doula work and teaching childbirth education. And I'm taking a big step back from dance calling for the foreseeable future. I've called dances for nearly 10 years and have loved just about every minute of it. I've learned so much and know that there is much more to learn. I believe I'll get back into at some point, but for now, I hope to see you on the dance floor where I'll just be another happy dancer. Wishing you the best!

Closing Out 2016

posted Nov 14, 2016, 6:41 PM by Connie Carringer   [ updated Nov 14, 2016, 6:41 PM ]

Well, it's been quite a year! Life and work have been full and there are lots of changes ahead. First of all, I resigned from my role as Support Group Coordinator at Compass Center after 4 years in the job. I'll be staying on as a very part-time database manager (something I've been doing all along) and will be able to do that work from home. In the meantime, I started my own business! Through Sprout and Bean I'll be focusing on my doula work and I am working on becoming a HypnoBabies instructor.

I'm still calling and participating in dance as much as I can, which is not much compared to pre-kid days. Here is what I have coming up:

Friday, November 18th - Apex Family Dance
Friday, December 16th - Apex Family Dance
Sunday, December 18th - Triangle Callers' Collective Dance

I'm looking forward to a new year and all the new things that will be coming into my life. I hope to see you out in the world!

Soon it will be Springtime!

Life is good these days. Spending as much time as I can at home with my hunny and the baby. I'm still calling some dances here and there, so I hope to see you at some of the following gigs:

March 5th: First Saturday Contra in Carrboro
March 18th: Apex Family Dance
March 19th: Boone Country Dancers (calling workshop and dance to follow)
March 26th: Family Dance for Church of the Ascension
April 2nd: Roanoke Contra Dance
April 8th: Apex Family Dance

I'm also excited about serving as doula for my best friend sometime in April or May! I'll be taking a little break from calling then, but hope to be back with more gigs in the summer and fall.

Lots of Squares!

posted Oct 8, 2015, 6:05 PM by Connie Carringer

I've slowly gotten back into dance calling this fall and have been delighted to have more opportunities to call squares! I got to do a full evening of squares back in September for the new monthly square dance in Pittsboro and will be doing that dance again in November. This month I have the pleasure of co-calling an evening of squares with Sarah Gibson for NC Squares in Durham. Here are all the gigs I have coming up:

October 11: International Student Dance, UNC Chapel Hill
October 23: Apex Family Dance
November 20: Apex Family Dance

New Life Means a New Life!

I'm now 5 months into the adventure of motherhood and I'm still in awe of this little person who has taken over my life. She is just wonderful. We are all doing well.

Understandably, I've taken a break from much dance calling, though I've been doing our beautiful Apex Family Dance each month. I've started booking a few gigs here and there in the fall and excited to get back into the swing of things!

Stay tuned for more details on the coming gigs. The most recent schedule is up on the Family Dance page, so check that out and I hope to see you there! Also, my friend Shay is starting a new square dance in Pittsboro, NC that I'm really excited about. I'll be calling the first dance in that series on September, 5th!

Big Life Changes

posted Dec 22, 2014, 9:20 AM by Connie Carringer

Hello friends! You may have noticed that I haven't been posting much about dance gigs, weddings, or other events recently and that has been for good reasons.

First, my partner Justin and I bought, renovated and moved into a house in lovely downtown Apex. We've been settled in for about a month and love our new place. Secondly, we are expecting our first baby any day now! The official "guess date" (as our doula calls it) is January 2nd, 2015, but I'm over 38 weeks along, so out little gal could arrive any time.

I called my last dance of the year back in November and will be taking a break to give myself time to get settled into motherhood. I'm hoping to jump back into calling local gigs and officiating weddings later in the spring and summer. I'm excited about this new adventure and so appreciate all the support I get from my friends and community.

Wishing you a very safe, restful, and joyful holiday season.

Off to Pinewoods!

posted Aug 21, 2014, 6:03 AM by Connie Carringer

After months of anticipation, I'm finally on the journey to Pinewoods for a week of teaching, learning, dancing, music, and community! I'm so grateful to be traveling with dear friends and, hopefully, making some new, wonderful friends once we arrive. I learned this week that this will be the final session of English and American Week at the camp after a long, long history of wonderful, end-of-summer joy, so we are going to make it a good one! I'll be out of reach of any cell phones or internet for a whole week. I'm looking forward to a full week of joyous, technology-free revelry!

I'll be back in September for some Family Dances at the Halle Center! We've got a great thing happening every month in that lovely, historic dance hall. I hope to see you there on September 26th!
