Understandably, I've taken a break from much dance calling, though I've been doing our beautiful Apex Family Dance each month. I've started booking a few gigs here and there in the fall and excited to get back into the swing of things!
Stay tuned for more details on the coming gigs. The most recent schedule is up on the Family Dance page, so check that out and I hope to see you there! Also, my friend Shay is starting a new square dance in Pittsboro, NC that I'm really excited about. I'll be calling the first dance in that series on September, 5th!
Hello friends! You may have noticed that I haven't been posting much about dance gigs, weddings, or other events recently and that has been for good reasons.
First, my partner Justin and I bought, renovated and moved into a house in lovely downtown Apex. We've been settled in for about a month and love our new place. Secondly, we are expecting our first baby any day now! The official "guess date" (as our doula calls it) is January 2nd, 2015, but I'm over 38 weeks along, so out little gal could arrive any time.
I called my last dance of the year back in November and will be taking a break to give myself time to get settled into motherhood. I'm hoping to jump back into calling local gigs and officiating weddings later in the spring and summer. I'm excited about this new adventure and so appreciate all the support I get from my friends and community.
Wishing you a very safe, restful, and joyful holiday season.
After months of anticipation, I'm finally on the journey to Pinewoods for a week of teaching, learning, dancing, music, and community! I'm so grateful to be traveling with dear friends and, hopefully, making some new, wonderful friends once we arrive. I learned this week that this will be the final session of English and American Week at the camp after a long, long history of wonderful, end-of-summer joy, so we are going to make it a good one! I'll be out of reach of any cell phones or internet for a whole week. I'm looking forward to a full week of joyous, technology-free revelry!
I'll be back in September for some Family Dances at the Halle Center! We've got a great thing happening every month in that lovely, historic dance hall. I hope to see you there on September 26th!

Well, I can't believe it is April. As interminable as the winter was, spring has really snuck up on me. I took a little break from dance calling in February and March so that I could welcome two gorgeous baby boys into the world; my nephew Jonas and my best friend's little Max. It was a huge honor to witness Max's entrance into the world and then get to spend some quality time with my sister and her growing family. Now that it is April, I'm really glad to be getting back on the dance calling train.
Saturday, April 5th: Footloose/Contraz Series, Carrboro, NC
Friday, April 11th: Apex Family Dance, Apex, NC
Saturday, April 12th: Boone Country Dancers, Boone, NC
Thursday, April 17th: Shakori Hills Square Dance, Pittsboro, NC
Friday, April 18th: Charleston, SC Contra Dance

I hope to see you on the dance floor!
It has been a wonderful fall for dancing and calling. The most exciting announcement for me is that I have been invited to be the scholarship staff person for English and American Week at Pinewoods next August. I will get to teach contras in the morning and call along with some incredible callers and musicians each evening. I know I will learn so much.
In other news, here are the dances I'll be calling the next couple months:
December 6th - NC Squares, Carrboro
December 13th - Triangle Country Dancers, Carrboro
January 4th - Footloose/Contrazz Dance, Carrboro
January 17th - Charlottesville, VA Contra Dance

Lastly, the Apex Family Dance has been going so well. I have more fun each month.
I'm looking forward to calling a dance every month in 2014. Check out this video of our last dance at the Halle Center on Friday, November 22, 2013. You can download a flyer for the first half of 2014 on the Apex Family Dance page on this website. No matter your age, dance level, or ability - you are welcome at the Apex Family Dance. Next dance is January 24th.

Come on out - it will be great to see friends on the dance floor!
It was an amazing weekend in Jonesborough, TN. Contrathon was just about the most fun I've had calling since I first started 4 years ago. It was an honor to work with Jesse Edgerton, Euphor, and Rob Z and the Trustees. The pavilion at Serenity Knoll is a beautiful venue and we could not have asked for a more perfect day. I got to camp in my tent and see some great friends who now live far away. It was simply a wonderful, wonderful weekend that I will not soon forget.
In other news, I'm really excited to kick off the Apex Family Dance Series next week on Thursday, June 6th with David DiGiuseppe and Pete Campbell providing the music. I've created a webpage and facebook group to help keep you all informed on what is going on with this series. It will be a monthly dance through November!
I'm also looking forward to calling in Carrboro on June 21st, Greensboro on July 6th, and a new Contra Dance in Apex on July 12th. I'll be doing 7 dances in the Month of July - more information to come!
May is going to be a great month for dance calling. I'll be working with some of my favorite musicians, co-calling with one of my favorite callers, and visiting two of my favorite dance communities.
