It has been a wonderful fall for dancing and calling. The most exciting announcement for me is that I have been invited to be the scholarship staff person for English and American Week at Pinewoods next August. I will get to teach contras in the morning and call along with some incredible callers and musicians each evening. I know I will learn so much.
In other news, here are the dances I'll be calling the next couple months:
I'm looking forward to calling a dance every month in 2014. Check out this video of our last dance at the Halle Center on Friday, November 22, 2013. You can download a flyer for the first half of 2014 on the Apex Family Dance page on this website. No matter your age, dance level, or ability - you are welcome at the Apex Family Dance. Next dance is January 24th.

Come on out - it will be great to see friends on the dance floor!
It was an amazing weekend in Jonesborough, TN. Contrathon was just about the most fun I've had calling since I first started 4 years ago. It was an honor to work with Jesse Edgerton, Euphor, and Rob Z and the Trustees. The pavilion at Serenity Knoll is a beautiful venue and we could not have asked for a more perfect day. I got to camp in my tent and see some great friends who now live far away. It was simply a wonderful, wonderful weekend that I will not soon forget. In other news, I'm really excited to kick off the Apex Family Dance Series next week on Thursday, June 6th with David DiGiuseppe and Pete Campbell providing the music. I've created a webpage and facebook group to help keep you all informed on what is going on with this series. It will be a monthly dance through November! I'm also looking forward to calling in Carrboro on June 21st, Greensboro on July 6th, and a new Contra Dance in Apex on July 12th. I'll be doing 7 dances in the Month of July - more information to come!
May is going to be a great month for dance calling. I'll be working with some of my favorite musicians, co-calling with one of my favorite callers, and visiting two of my favorite dance communities.

The dance at the John C. Campbell Folk School went great! I had a blast seeing old friends and making new ones. It is always good to go back home to the place where dance first became a major part of my life.
Contraindicated was lovely to work with and the music was splendid. I got to waltz with my friend and dance mentor Bob Dalsemer from whom I have learned so much. I'm full of gratitude for my dear friend Charlotte Crittenden who hosted me so graciously! I'm looking forward to coming back to Brasstown for another dance soon.
If you have never been to the folk school, definitely check out their website. I participated in the work/study program in 2003 and the host program in 2006-2007.
