The Thornycroft Collection

Isaac Thomas "Tom" Thornycroft (22 November 1881 – 6 June 1955) competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics.  As skipper of the Gyrinus he won two gold medals in the only motor boat competitions at the Olympics.  He was a cousin of the war poet Siegfried Sassoon and the son of Sir John Thornycroft, the founder of the Thornycroft Shipbuilding Company.  The Museum houses a large collection of Thornycroft photos and other records which is being catalogued.  We also have a number of Thornycroft test tank models from the turn of the twentieth century.
