Welcome to the Catworts School of Science and Magic!!!

Catworts began in 2008 as a community service project hosted by Battlefield High School's Science National Honor Society.  This year Catworts will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024!  100 elementary school students in grades 2 - 5 are young wizards for the day as they explore the magic and wonder of science.

The day for these wizards begins with registration for those accepted into Catworts.  Then, everyone attends the opening ceremony in which wizards are assigned a house by the sorting hat.  There are four houses representing four core subject areas of science:  biology, chemistry, earth science and physics.  A scientist who has a major contribution to the knowledge of that subject area represents each house.  Each house also has a resident animal mascot.  Click on the menu to the right to learn more about the four houses of Catworts.

After the sorting ceremony is complete, our student wizards are taken to the classrooms by their prefects where they will participate in fun, interactive activities designed to teach students about cool science concepts.  The wizards rotate through four classes, one presented by each house.  The classes are planned, practiced, and taught by Science National Honor Society members who have been approved by the governing professors of Catworts.  A break is given between the second and third class of the day to provide a healthy snack to fuel the minds of our young wizards.

The Catworts School of Science and Magic ends with a closing ceremony where parents can see a highlight picture reel of the activities learned by their young wizards.  Then, students are released from Catworts to share their new knowledge about the magic of science with their family and friends.

Registration for Catworts takes place online approximately four to five weeks prior to the scheduled event.  This year Registration will open at 10:30am on Thursday April 18, 2024!  Applications are accepted on a first come, first serve basis, so parents are encouraged to register early as each year their is a wait list for Catworts.  The registration fee is $25.00.  Each participant receives a T-shirt, a wand, and certificate of participation.

Our Science National Honor Society looks forward each year to this event, and we hope to see you at Catworts.
