CAT Experiences of Candidates - 3 - 4

CAT Entrance Experiences 3 and 4

Today I'll discuss about 2 students - one PGP student and another PGP ABM student. Those who want to appear for PGP ABM - for them, his answering pattern can be a benchmark and stop them from unnecessary panic when you are having a very good CAT exam. You know this happens! Many students try to attempt at least 60% in CAT and when they are running a bit slow in the first one hour, they panic and screw up! Even 38% is good enough to get a 99 percentile in CAT - as you saw in the last interview

First candidate: Presently a PGP student at IIM-A

Answering pattern

QA: seven 1 mark questions and three 2 marks questions

RC/VA: seven 1 mark questions and eighteen 2 marks questions

DI/LA: five 1 mark questions and ten 2 marks questions

Percentile = 99.9

Percentage marks = he forgot!

Analysis

He started with RC -> DI/LA -> QA. His weak point was quants and he did really poor there - answering only 13 marks! But he did brilliant in RC, a whooping 43!!! Even in DI, 25 is quite good!

Again you see, YOU CAN BE WEAK IN ONE OF THE SECTIONS - DON'T PANIC - YOU SCORE ON YOUR STRONG POINTS SO HEAVILY THAT YOU CAN MORE THAN MAKE UP YOUR WEAK POINTS.  Here he just cleared the QA section and cracked the rest two! So, you may not be equally good in every section like the 100 percentile student, but you can CRACK CAT!

Second student: Presently PGP-ABM student at IIMA

 Here's a clue to the agribusiness aspiring students!
Answering pattern

QA: seven 1 mark questions and five 2 marks questions

RC/VA: eight 1 mark questions and five 2 marks questions

DI/LA: seven 1 mark questions and five 2 marks questions

Percentile = 93.14

Percentage marks = he forgot!

Analysis

He started with QA -> DI/LA -> RC. So, ABM Aspirants, you see here - a 93 percentile is good enough to get you a seat at IIM Ahmedabad! Don't unnecessarily panic at the exam hall. Actually if you analyze - if compared to our benchmark - the 100 percentile - this guy also did quite well if the number of questions attempted is solely taken into account. But his percentile shows that he did answer a few questions incorrect! Had he taken his time and answered all the 17-18 marks he attempted - correctly, his percentile would have gone higher!

Again you see, Never loose your cool in exam hall - just answer as much possible for you. CAT exam is a test of character and even a 99.9 percentile feels dejected initially after coming out of the exam hall!  Let me assure you, if you can answer 40 percent correctly - chances are high that you'll definitely get calls from IIMs (unless the exam is too easy - but I don't expect the paper to be easy this time!).

Send me your feedbacks about these interviews. Keep mugging.
