Catherine Casanova, PhD

Cathérine Casanova (formerly Koch) is a Senior Economist at the Financial Stability Department of the  Swiss National Bank (SNB).

From 2014 to 2021, she worked for the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). While generally based in Basel, she was at the BIS Representative Office for Asia and the Pacific in Hong Kong between November 2016 and April 2017.  Before joining the Secretariat of the Committee of the Global Financial System (CGFS) in August 2019,  Catherine mainly worked in the unit on  Financial Systems and Regulation (FSR)  at the Monetary and Economic Department (MED).  She contributed to various BIS publications and working groups also involving the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS).

Catherine received a PhD in Economics from the University of Zurich (Switzerland) in 2012. During her PhD, she visited Columbia University (NYC) and held a dissertation scholarship of the German National Merit Foundation. Until August 2014, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zurich.

Her research interests capture International Banking and Regulation, Capital Flows, Financial Market Integration, Household Finance and Microeconometrics.
