In May and June of 2013, Catherine starred as Phèdre in the play Phèdre in both Melbourne and Sydney for production company Bell Shakespeare. Phèdre is a 17th century play written by French playwright Jean Racine, and is not often produced in Australia. Also starring Julie Forsyth, Marco Chiappi and Abby Earl.
The play itself centres around a woman named Phèdre, who is married to a demigod named King Theseus. Secretly though, Phèdre is in love with her step-son, and when she tells the young man of her love for him (after thinking her husband is dead), the storyline explodes with 'wild accusations, chilling curses and violent deaths'.
