An evening with a group from the Surrey Research Park - 29th June

We hosted a group of young professionals from the Surrey Research Park,

who enjoyed a fun evening of bowls on our green.

The event went off very well and everyone enjoyed the experience.

Guildford in Bloom - Saturday 2nd June

This year we again had a really nice day for the event, which was was well attended by the public,

although the figures were slightly down on last year.

‘Cafe Castle Green’ made £398.60 (made up of £344.60 for tea and cakes and £54 from the sale of books and DVDs).

This was a good result for the Club and thanks to all of you who helped in the Cafe or supplied cakes or did both.

The Flower Beds were opened by the new Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Mike Parsons, with his wife Jean.

Bowls Week at Bembridge I.O.W

This year's Bowls away week was enjoyed by seventeen members of the Club,

who entered the Open Fours Competition, run by Warners Leisure at their Bembridge hotel.

Once again the week was enjoyed by all, although, apart from John Reeves,

we did have a great deal of success on the green.

John formed part of a scratch team, made up of two players from Cove and one from the local side.

With John as skip the team fought their way to the final, but sadly lost by a single shot.

Off the green there was the opportunity to celebrate two birthdays,

the first being that of Club Captain Colin and then followed by Sue.

The photos of the celebrations speak for themselves and helped make the week one of the best so far.

Bowls Coaching

If you require any form of coaching, please contact the Club qualified coaches,

Diana and Colin Summerhayes, have now passed their EBCS Level 2 Club Coaching Assessment

and will be pleased to offer you help and arrange coaching sessions.

Club Coaching Evenings

These take place every Monday and Thursday, from 6.00pm

Come along for a social 'Roll Up', coaching or just to meet other Club members.

Coaching on Monday evenings will take the form of actual games in which players

may rotate around to gain experience of the different team positions.

On Thursdays coaching will be either individual or involve group skills exercises.

From Colin

You don't have to come up to the green to get coaching advice from me.

You can easily get it on-line, and I urge you to do so.

Don't be proud. No matter how long you've been bowling, or how good you think you are,

there's always something you can learn that will improve your play

(That's why Andy Murray spends a fortune hiring the likes of Ivan Lendl to help him, and Djokovitch hires Boris Becker).

But you can do it much more cheaply!

I suggest you try Googling this Youtube bowls training video from New Zealand:

Your screen will come up with "2 Delivery - YouTube"

Click on that, and watch.

Keep it running, as it goes through several sections focusing on different skills

(until you get to where it comes up with Hong Kong pairs, then you know you've seen the whole lot).

Then REMEMBER IT AND try putting it into PRACTICE.
