Safe Homes Businesses

An educational presentation and flyer which educate businesses on why a drug-free workplace is economically beneficial, outline business responsibilities, and ask businesses to encourage their employees to become a part of the Safe Homes Network, were developed and distributed. Businesses sign a pledge in support of keeping a safe, healthy and drug free community. Before taking the pledge, each employer is required to inform employees about the Safe Homes program and encourage them to take the pledge with their own families.

Reasons to become a Safe Homes Business:
According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, drug use, abuse, or addiction among employees and their family members may cause expensive problems for  businesses. Drug abuse costs employers $81 billion annually due to the following:
    · Loss of productivity
    · Absenteeism
    · Injuries
    · Fatalities
    · Theft
    · Low employee morale
    · Legal liabilities and workers'    compensation costs
According to the 2012 Kittitas County Healthy Youth Survey, nearly 1 in 5 high school students have reported binge drinking in the last two weeks
