Project Partners

This project addresses the challenges posed by the task of sound segregation in an ambitious way by gathering together institutions and researchers with previous work in CASA, and a high level of expertise in signal processing, machine learning, sound analysis, MIR, human auditory perception and software engineering.

Project Partners include:
The Project Principal Investigator, Dr. Luís Gustavo Martins (CITAR/EA-UCP), has worked during his PhD work in the area of CASA [T2], and together with Dr. George Tzanetakis (UVic) and Dr. Mathieu Lagrange (IRCAM) developed work in the field of predominant singing voice segregation [
T1] and instrument identification in polyphonic music signals [T3]. Dr. Fabien Gouyon (INESC Porto) brings a high level of expertise on the fields of MIR, mainly in beat and tempo estimation of music signals [T5]. Research on Music Psychology and Performance Science conducted by Dr. Daniela Coimbra (CITAR) [T4] bring an important contribution to the understanding and integration of human auditory mechanisms in the proposed project.

The Project counts with the consultancy of Prof. Stephen McAdams (CIRMMT/McGill - a senior researcher and expert in auditory perception and cognition in everyday and musical listening), Prof. Aníbal Ferreira (FEUP - a senior researcher and expert in digital signal and audio processing, coding and analysis) and Prof. Jaime Cardoso (FEUP - whose research interests focus on Machine Learning and Image Segmentation).
