The wearing of jewelry was not encouraged in my family's home as I was growing up. My mom didn't pierce her ears until I was in middle school at the earliest and my dad frowned upon any man wearing jewelry with the exception of a watch. He didn't even wear his wedding ring and only wore a watch sporadically. I had several watches growing up, most of them cheap Timexs with those stretchy metal link bands or others with leather or cloth bands that wasted away. It wasn't until college that my mom bought me a Fossil, then the "cool" watch. I remember being really excited and hesitated removing the plastic backing that protected the back of it. Unfortunately, I didn't like writing or typing with something on my wrist, so I got in the habit of taking it off to do so. I did this once while waiting for my college speech class to begin. I was halfway through the class when I realized I didn't have my watch. I searched for it for two weeks, looking in lost and founds, asking those who wandered the hall during my class. I quaked at telling my mom and when I finally did, it was as bad as I could expect. She didn't yell or scream, but it was one of the few times I could tell she was really disappointed in me. Given how I consider my mother a saint, this was crushing. The following Christmas she gave me a new Fossil, the one here, that was actually better but had cost less then the first one. I stopped wearing it two years ago when the battery died and I was too lazy to replace it but I also fear that I'll lose it again if I do wear it.

i always get this same watch. over and over and over. i buy them at target. the watch or the battery never run out. i wear it all the time, everywhere, except to shower or when i maybe never sometimes hardly ever pretty much never in the last three years have a partner to sleep with ... so never take it off except to shower. so the bands always break and give out. seriously. i wonder how many of these faces i still have. i've tried to get bands and buy them and replace them. but talk about frustrating. i'd rather pay another $30 once a year.
