Measurements/Data Definitions

Below is a brief description of what each measurement or data field represents from the spreadsheets.  Some fields are only available for specific car seat types.
 
Car seat Manufacturer
The manufacturer name of the car seat (ie. Britax, Safety 1st, Evenflo)

Car Seat Model Name
The model name used to identify the specific car seat (ie. Scenera 40RF, Comfort Sport, Nautilus Elite).  If variations exist for a particular model, additional info may also be provided.

Lowest Harness Height
Measurement from the bottom seating area up to the lowest harness slot/position.  This measurement is taking with the cover on the seat, and with cover and padding compressed as though the child was sitting in the seat at the time. Sometimes the cover my shift some and the slot on the cover may not line up exactly with the shell.  This measurement is the slot on the shell, not the cover.  If the slot is wide, the measurement should be to the position where the harness will be positioned when the harness is tightened.

Highest Harness Height
Measurement from the bottom seating area up to the highest harness slot/position.  This measurement is taking with the cover on the seat, and with cover and padding compressed as though the child was sitting in the seat at the time. Sometimes the cover my shift some and the slot on the cover may not line up exactly with the shell.  This measurement is the slot on the shell, not the cover.  If the slot is wide, the measurement should be to the position where the harness will be positioned when the harness is tightened.

Shortest Crotch Buckle Position
Measurement from the back of the seating area to the first crotch buckle position. If the slot is wide, the measurement should be to the position where the buckle is positioned when the harness is tightened.  Some seats only have one crotch buckle position, and if this is the case, the same measurement will be included in both the shortest and longest crotch buckle measurement field.

Longest Crotch Buckle Position
Measurement from the back of the seating area to the first crotch buckle position. If the slot is wide, the measurement should be to the position where the buckle is positioned when the harness is tightened.  Some seats only have one crotch buckle position, and if this is the case, the same measurement will be included in both the shortest and longest crotch buckle measurement field.

Crotch Buckle Length
Actual length of the crotch buckle strap as it extends from the shell up to the buckle including the actual buckle in the measurement length.

Internal Seating Depth
Measurement of the inside of the car seat from the base where the child's bottom rests to the edge of the seat where the child's knees/feet rest.

Internal Seating Height
Measurement of the inside of the car seat from the base where the child's bottom rests to the top of the shell above where the child's head rests. If the shell height varies, the measurement should be taken at a position where the child's head would be typically be positioned. If the head rest is adjustable, the measurement should be taken with the head rest raised to the highest allowed head rest position.

External Base Seating Depth (for booster seats only)
Measurement of the the longest external depth (front to back) of the booster seat base.  For backless boosters, this measurement should be the same as the internal seating depth. If depth is adjustable, a range from shortest to deepest setting should be provided.

Internal Seat Bottom Width
Measurement of the inside width of the car seat taken from where the child's bottom and legs rest.

Internal Seat Shoulder Width
Measurement of the inside width of the car seat taken from where the child's shoulders would typically be positioned.

External Seat Width
Measurement of the widest external width of the car seat.  For infant seats, this measurement should include the handle if that is the widest point on the seat.

External Base Seating Width (for booster seats only)
Measurement of the widest external width of the booster seat base. This is not a measurement of the high back portion of the booster seat, just the base. If width is adjustable, a range from narrowest to widest setting should be provided.

Maximum External Width - High back Booster Portion (for booster seats only)
Measurement of the widest external width of the high back portion of the booster seat. If width is adjustable, enter measurements as a range from narrowest to widest setting.

Lowest Booster Belt Guide Height (high back boosters only)
This is a measurement from the bottom seating area up to the lowest booster belt guide (the piece on the seat that holds the shoulder belt in position while the seat is being used as a high back booster).  This measurement is taking with the cover on the seat and with cover and padding compressed as though the child was sitting in the seat at the time.  If there is a wide gap for the belt guide, a range for the measurement may be listed.

Highest Booster Belt Guide Height (high back boosters only)
This is a measurement from the bottom seating area up to the highest booster belt guide (the piece on the seat that holds the shoulder belt in position while the seat is being used as a high back booster).  This measurement is taking with the cover on the seat and with cover and padding compressed as though the child was sitting in the seat at the time.  If there is a wide gap for the belt guide, a range for the measurement may be listed.

Base to Seating Height (for boosters only)
This is the measurement from the base of the booster seat (where it touches the car's seat) up to where the child sits. 

Bucket Seat Weight (for infant seats only)
The weight of the bucket portion of the infant car seat. This does not include the base as part of the weight.

Seat Weight (not included for infant seats or dedicated booster seats)
Weight of the car seat, including the cover and other parts used on the carseat.

Seat Weight with High Back installed (for dedicated booster seats only)
Weight of the entire booster seat with all padding and high back portion installed.

Weight as a no back booster (for dedicated booster seats only)
Weight of the backless portion of the booster seat

Rear Facing Weight Range
The manufacturer's stated rear facing harness weight range to use the car seat.

Forward Facing Weight Range
The manufacturer's stated forward facing harness weight range to use the car seat.

High Back Booster Mode Weight Range
The manufacturer's stated weight range to use the car seat as a high back booster utilizing the vehicle's lap/shoulder belt to secure the child.

No-Back Booster Mode Weight Range
The manufacturer's stated weight range to use the car seat as a no-back booster utilizing the vehicle's lap/shoulder belt to secure the child.

Rear Facing Harness Height Range
The manufacturer's stated height range to use the harness in rear facing mode.

Forward Facing Harness Height Range
The manufacturer's stated height range to use the harness in forward facing mode.

High Back Booster Height Range
The manufacturer's stated height range to use the car seat as a high back booster utilizing the vehicle's lap/shoulder belt to secure the child.

No-Back Booster Height Range
The manufacturer's stated height range to use the car seat as a no-back booster utilizing the vehicle's lap/shoulder belt to secure the child.

Foward Facing Harness Age Range
The manufacturer's stated age range to use the harness in forward facing mode.

High Back Booster Age Range
The manufacturer's stated age range to use the car seat as a high back booster utilizing the vehicle's lap/shoulder belt to secure the child.

No-Back Booster Age Range
The manufacturer's stated age range to use the car seat as a no-back booster utilizing the vehicle's lap/shoulder belt to secure the child.

Handle Positions (for infant seats only)
Allowed handle positions while the car seat is used in a vehicle.

Lock-offs Provided
Indicates if the car seat have any built in Lock-off clips to lock the seatbelt when installed in a vehicle.

Rebound Control
Indicates if the seat provides any rebound control devices, such as a tether strap or rebound bar, to be used while the carseat is installed rear facing.

Booster LATCH Compatible (for booster seats only)
Indicates if the car seat can be secured to the vehicle using LATCH connectors while in booster mode utilizing the vehicle's lap/shoulder seatbelt to secure the child.

Seat Modes
For infant seats, this indicates if the carseat can be used with our without a base when installed in the vehicle.
For convertible, combination and booster seats, this indicates if the carseat can be used in rearfacing, forward facing, high back booster, or no back booster mode.

Expiration Limits
Lists the shelf life of the carseat.
