 Spot cleaning
Carpet cleaners will tell you that "spots" are removable, while stains are permanent. We will not stick to the technical definitions, and in any case, the appearance of carpet stains can be improved even when the stain cannot be fully removed. Follow these guidelines...Blot liquids, don't rub them in! Use a clean white cotton cloth or plain white paper towels. Once you have removed the liquid, rinse the spot with water and blot again until dry. Repeat if necessary to remove more of the stain, but don't scrub the area, or you may damage the carpet and set the stain in more permanently as peanut butter, pudding and such, scrape and lift gently with a spoon. Rinse the remaining spill out and blot dry.

Dried solids should be broken up and vacuumed. Repeat until it is all gone, then rinse with water and blot dry.

Whenever you are not sure how to get out carpet stains, try water first.

 Carpet Stain Removal Secret!

One of the most useful tools for removing carpet stains is a shop-vac. With a wet/dry vacuum cleaner you can quickly suck up spills, but more importantly, you can repeatedly flush the area with water and suck it out. This is much more efficient than blotting with a cloth, and less likely to cause damage to the carpet.

Now, when you are cleaning up a spill, make sure that you are never rubbing the carpet. This will only make matters worse. You are going to want to blot the material until you are able to get most of the spilled liquid picked up. Also, you never want to use a hair dryer or anything source of heat to dry your carpet. This would only seal in the stain. If you did not get all of the stain removed during your first attempt, there will be no going back over it because you will have already make it permanent.

Steam cleaning your carpet at least twice a year will help keep your carpet in as good of shape as possible. This way, when it comes to spot cleaning, things will move much easier for you. The last thing you want to do is to end up ignoring your carpet and then wondering why it is so hard to remove any of the stains.

When selecting cleaning products, you are going to want to make sure that you are going to use the mildest cleaning products that you can find. Save the harsh treatments for the harsh stains. Also, it is vital that you are completely reading through the directions and the manufacturer's warning. Not all carpet cleaners are equal and you want to make sure that you are not taking a bad situation and making it worse.

As you can see, there is not a lot to learning how to clean carpet. You just have to know a few basics and make sure that you are on top of your game. The more you know and the quicker you take action, the cleaner your carpet will
