I've known her for many years.
She was born without hands. About
seven years ago, she lost her legs. She
spends her days in her wheelchair, usually
on Whitley, a long steep avenue which runs
from Hollywood Boulevard due north up into
the hills into Whitley Heights, where the stars used
to live long ago.

Audrey is sweet and usually joyful. I have seen
her in Hollywood for as long as I can remember.
On this night she was sitting quietly in the
shadows of Whitley, accepting change and
kindness from passersby but not begging,
never asking. She feels Hollywood has
gotten worse in recent years, yet she
purposely stays away from the parts of the
old boulevard that have been rejuvenated -
those parts west of Highland. She said
she was attacked a few months ago, and
what little money she had was stolen.

But she is not homeless. She and her
husband spend late nights and early mornings
at motels in the Valley - usually out in
Van Nuys. She doesn't stay in Hollywood,
she said, cause those motels are not
accessible to wheel-chairs. She takes the
bus. Must take her at least and hour one way.
And I think I have it tough when I get
stuck in traffic in my car, listening to

When I asked for her photo, she said sure,
and smiled softly for me. And told me if I ever
wanted to find her, that she'd be in Hollywood.
"No matter what, i will always love
Hollywood," she said.

Time for me to be the maid and do some cleaning... I did the floors and vacuuming last night, and now must finish laundry, clean some windows, clean the bathrooms and do dusting. We did take on maid services last year when I had the broken foot bone, but I have been back to doing my own cleaning for quite a while now, and am far more pleased with the results. I KNOW that things are clean when I am done, I take the TIME to do it right, and too... in the end, when I finish cleaning I have no property stolen! (the reason we did away with hired help). I have a friend coming for a visit for a couple days ... great incentive for some house cleaning! ... toodles and hope you have a fun day... music on NOW to make cleaning enjoyable!
