There is a happy place where hobby and work cross paths. For us, chickens are the common ground. Back in 2009 with a lot of family / friends getting both layers and meat birds, we built the first chicken plucker. In 2012, we are finally ready to get birds of our own. So, we are offering a coop building service.

Chicken Plucker

The plucker we built is based on a Whizbang Chicken Plucker design. It was built of food-grade components, and is sterilized before and after each use with all-natural Shaklee products (which we sell direct as an independent distributor). So you know that we are both safe for you and the environment.

The plucker is an electrical device that will pluck a scalded chicken or two in about a minute. You use a garden hose to wash down the feathers, which come out in the feather chute (into your bucket or waste basket) underneath. It takes a chore and almost makes it fun. The meat birds, as they come out, are left with only a few pin feathers. It is fast, clean and efficient.

It is also available for rental. Our cost is $40 per day. But, if no one else needs it the next day, we will give it to you at that price for the weekend. The best thing to do is schedule a day with another grower and do both your flocks. The Plucker will handle it. 50 birds on two homesteads is very reasonable in a day.

Call to schedule an appointment. Don't wait until the birds are almost ready to harvest.

Chicken Coops

If you are looking to start a flock, then you will need a coop. Lots of folks build their own. Others buy them from hardware stores. The difference in our coops is that they are sustainable, and they are made to order. We know the space needed by your flock, and build the coop to the perfect size. 4 birds need a smaller space than 6. In the winter, 4 birds can not stay warm enough in a coop built for 6. Likewise, we know that many homesteads have limited space and a coop may need to meet certain requirements. We can build them movable, we can build them with enclosed runs. we can build simple tractors, A-frames, or whatever else your heart desires.

The other difference in our coops is that they are more sustainable than the store bought variety. They are made from scrap wood that would have otherwise been put into the landfill. Waste wood from our other building projects throughout the year is set aside for coop building. The scrap is all top quality material, but it was excess for whatever reason, and is now perfectly suited to build coops. All screening and hardware are new.

Contact us with your ideas, and we can make them for you in as little as two weeks. If you want to save some money, paint them yourself.
