Just back from the 13th International Semantic Web Conference at Riva del Garda, Trentino, Italy. This year I was the General Chair, leading a great team of programme chairs and local organisors. 650 delegates, 22 workshops, 8 tutorials, 3 conference tracks, 151 posters and demos, 300+ conference presentations. And three socials. And the weather was summertime in the most beautiful place in Europe. Success!!!!!
On 4th April 2014 myself and my colleague Prof Doug Kell were awarded our CBEs by Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales.
On Friday 31 January the School of Computer Science kindly threw a champagne party for me, celebrating by CBE. The Head of School, Jim Miles, made a speech reflecting on my career and the embarassing antics we used to get up to in the old days. He also found my University Undergraduate record card. See the photo of me in 1979. Thanks everyone for a great "do" and for being so lovely.
Appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire by the Queen in the 2014 New Years Honours List, for Services to Science. I am thrilled and honoured.
Professor Goble was chosen because of her “achievements in eScience and semantic technologies, with significant contributions to both underpinning theory and engineering practice, leading to real systems that are transforming the way research is conducted, particularly in the life sciences.” and I get to wear a special tie.
