About me

Carmen Carlan

I am a researcher at fortiss, in the group of Model-based Systems Engineering. Also, I'm currently a PhD student of Prof. Alexander Pretschner at Technische Universität München in the Software and Systems Engineering departament. My second supervisor is Prof. Barbara Gallina, from Mälardalen University.

My research is concerned with streamlining and automating safety assurance workflows by using model-driven engineering and formal methods.

Previously, I studied at Technische Universität München, from where I graduated in 2015.

Projects

I am involved in an open source project called FASTEN, an environment for the rigorous specification, design and assurance of safety critical sytems. FASTEN features DSLs for three aspects: requirements specification, systems modeling and verification using NuSMV and Spin and safety assurance using GSN and STPA.

ISO 26262, SOTIF, DO-178C, DO-333

Experience with following safety standards:

"Both religion and science need for their activities the belief in God, and moreover God stands for the former in the beginning, and for the latter at the end of the whole thinking. For the former, God represents the basis, for the latter – the crown of any reasoning concerning the world-view." - Max Planck, Religion und Naturwissenschaft, Leipzig: Johann Ambrosius Barth Verlag, 1958, 27

Avid reader

“Every reader, as he reads, is actually the reader of himself. The writer's work is only a kind of optical instrument he provides the reader so he can discern what he might never have seen in himself without this book. The reader's recognition in himself of what the book says is the proof of the book's truth.” ― Marcel Proust, Time Regained
