And free CARROT seeds--the Carlton County Vegetable of the Year

WELCOME to the Carlton County Farmer's Market. Our farmers and artisans bring you locally-grown, fresh-picked fruits and vegetables from June to October, as well as breads and baked items, jams, jellies and canned goods, honey and maple syrup, eggs, meat, flowers, plants, body care products and fine crafts.

We have two market sites. In Cloquet, the Market is open Saturday mornings from 9 am to 12 pm in the parking lot of Premiere Theatres, 904 Hwy 33 S. Early-bird shoppers are welcome during set-up, which starts at 8 a.m.

The Carlton Market is open Tuesdays from 4 to 6 pm. This afternoon Market offers a convenient place and time to shop after work or school. It's located at the Four Seasons Sports Complex/Event Center in Carlton, just west of town. Set-up starts at 3:30 p.m., and early-bird shoppers are welcome.

Each week brings new seasonal produce, baked items and artisanal crafts to the Farmers Market. Our vendors are local--all of us live and make or grow our products within 50 miles of the Market. Longtime vendors and new members are always willing to answer your questions and talk about our wares.

The Market reintroduces SNAP/EBT in 2019! We now have the capacity to accept SNAP/EBT cards in Cloquet and Carlton using a central POS reader and tokens. We're excited to bring this valuable service to our customers. Minnesota's Hunger Solutions will match SNAP/EBT dollar-for-dollar up to $10 per market visit with "Market Bucks." Talk to the Market Manager on duty for more information.

At this point we only accept cards for SNAP/EBT. Individual vendors may be able to accept debit or credit cards--just ask.

Our Opening Day Plant Sale on Saturday, June 1st, is a great time to buy locally-grown, hardy, heirloom and hard-to-find varieties of transplants like tomatoes, peppers, brassicas and more. And we'll top off the day with a drawing for a "Breakfast Basket" of homemade artisan treats: a loaf of home-style rye bread from Rod Lind, two croissants from Elizabeth and Stephen at "Bread in the Meadow," gluten-free bread from Terry Sharkey, eggs from Rob & Lori at Promised Land Farm, preserves from Ken & Ruth at Leaning Barn Farm, a mug from Tim Riley, and freshly-roasted coffee and maple syrup from Gail at Hay Creek Hill Century Farm. You don't need to be present to win, but you do need to sign up for the drawing at the market on June 1st.

The Carlton County Farmers Market continues its partnership with the Cloquet Salvation Army Food Shelf. Farmers donate a portion of unsold fruits and vegetables from the Saturday Market to food shelf guests. In 2016, our first year, we donated 586 pounds, and we hope to match that amount in 2019.

We also partner with Carlton County's "One Vegetable One Community" project. Early in the season you'll find free seeds at the Market for the featured vegetable, and more projects throughout the summer. Carrots are the 2019 vegetable of the year, so look for free seeds and multi-colored fresh carrots at the Market this season.
