Overview

The British 6th Airbone Division had three main objectives on D-Day, 6 June 1944: the taking of two bridges over the Caen Canal and the River Orne, which today we know as Pegasus Bridge and Horsa Bridge; the destruction of the guns at the German gun emplacement known as the Merville Battery; and the destruction of five bridges in the Dives Valley.

This battlefield guide tells that story in great detail using many eyewitness accounts and also explaining how those objectives were achieved. There are also details of museums, memorials, cemeteries, tours and associated organisations, all of which will unravel the history of the area to the visitor and armchair traveller alike.
