So I finally met up with my parents (who have been in serbia) in Athens, Greece!  It was great to see them, I have been away from home for 4 months now and it felt good to catch up though it did remind me that my trips end is fast approaching.  We stayed in a beautiful hotel called the New Hotel and it was wonderful to have my own room with no one snoring or waking me up in the middle of the night, and of course getting to sleep in my underwear in this heat was nice too!  We were in Athens for two days and on the first day we hiked up to the Acropolis!  It really is as amazing as everyone makes it out to be.  We took lots of pictures (and my mom read lots from the guide books about) the parthenon and the other temples to Athena that were on the Acropolis.  We spent pretty much the whole morning up there before going to look at Roman Agora, the Odium (huge musical ancient theatre next to the acropolis that is still used today for performances), and Dionysus's Theatre.  The next day we tried to get out early (but with my family that is always quite impossible) and we started out at the Temple to Zeus, which while it isn't even close to complete is huge, the columns on the Temple to Zeus are bigger then the columns on the Parthenon.  It was really quite impressive as well.  We then spent a while in the Acropolis museum seeing a lot of the freezes and learning more history.  Finally we went to Ancient Agora where we got to see a smaller version of the Parthenon that is almost completely still standing, which was really neat!  In the afternoon we drove off towards Corinth and Nafplio which I will talk more about in the next post!
