You belong to me

This is an American romantic ballad of the 1950s.  The recording that achieved the greatest success was made by Jo Stafford -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQfF84ackMM  -.  She took the song to the top of the charts in both the States and the U.K..

The lyrics are the simple words of some-one, whose lover is about to leave on a journey to many different parts of the world. The one left behind is giving insistent reminders that, whatever the distance or the temptation, it is essential to remain faithful to their love. Carla Bruni gives these simple sentiments extra feeling.

See the pyramids along the Nile

Watch the sun rise on a tropic isle

Just remember, darling, all the while

You belong to me

See the market place in old Algiers

Send me photographs and souvenirs

But remember when a dream appears

You belong to me

I'll be so alone without you

Maybe you'll be lonesome too, and blue

Fly the ocean in a silver plane

Watch the jungle when it's wet with rain

Just remember till you're home again

You belong to me

I'll be so alone without you

Maybe you'll be lonesome too, and blue

Fly the ocean in a silver plane

Watch the jungle when it's wet with rain

Just remember till you're home again

You belong to me

I also like a recording made some time after Jo Stafford's by the American singer Patsy Kline:
