Little French Song

This song which is, of course, the title song of the album is the 9th song in the album list.
It is a nice simple song , mainly in English as Carla enjoys herself rhyming English words and French.  The song does not need translation but I have put some prompts at the side in case any word escapes the memory.

Quand tout va mal, when life goes wrong
try for a little french song
French songs are maybe démodées mais si douces à fredonner
French songs are tender à I'envi, nostalgiques à l'infini

Et quand on n'sait plus where to belong
try for a little french song
French songs will take you to Paris, to Pigalle ou I'Île Saint-Louis
French songs are dancing sous la pluie, de Bastille aux Tuileries

Because we have de quoi frimer : we have Brassens, Brel and Ferré
We have Boris Vian, Barbara, Gainsbourg, Trenet, Prévert, Kosma
Because we have de quoi choisir we have Aznavour, Reggiani,
Bécaud, Nougaro, Moustaki, Édith Piaf CIoclo and Johnny
Oui, oui, oui, oui

Bien sûr c'n'est pas Duke Ellington
C'n'est pas EIvis ni Jackson
C'n'est pas Fitzgerald ou Armstrong
C'est iust a Iittle French song
Mais quand Ie chagrin reste too Iong
Moi je chante une little French song

Because we have de quoi frimer : we have Brassens, Brel and Ferré
We have Boris Vian, Barbara, Gainsbourg, Trenet, Prévert, Kosma
Because we have de quoi choisir we have Aznavour, Reggiani,
Bécaud, Nougaro, Moustaki, Edith Piaf Cloclo and Johnny
Oui, oui, oui, oui

Et qu'on soit de Londres ou de Hong Kong, qu'on soit trois feuilles
ou shu-bang
Qu'on soit djellabah ou sarong, try for a little French song
Quand les méchants sonnent leur gong
Moi ie chante une little French song

When all goes wrong.  When life goes wrong.

Try for a little French song

French songs are maybe out of fashion  But so soft when you hum them

French songs are tender as you like - infinite nostalgia.

And when one no longer knows where you belong

Try for a little French song

French songs will take you to Paris, to Pigalle ou I'Île Saint Louis

French songs are dancing in the rain from Place de Bastille to the Tuileries.

Because we have something to swank about: we have Brassens Brel and Ferré

We have Boris Vian, Barbara Gainsbourg, Trenet, Prévert, Cosma

Because we have wide ranging choice: we have Aznavour, Reggiani,

Bécaud, Nougaro, Moustaki, Edith Piaf, Cloclo and Johnny

Oui oui oui oui

Of course it isn’t Duke Ellington

It isn’t Elvis or Michael Jackson

It isn’t Ella Fitzgerald or Louis Armstrong

It’s just a little French song

But when the blues linger too long

Me, I sing a little French song.

Because we have something to swank about: we have Brassens Brel and Ferré

We have Boris Vian, Barbara Gainsbourg, Trenet, Prévert, Cosma

Because we have  wide ranging choice: we have Aznavour, Reggiani

Bécaud, Nougaro, Moustaki Edith Piaf, Cloclo and Johnny

Oui oui oui oui

And whether one comes from London or Hong Kong,

If you smoke trois feuilles or shu-bang

Whether you go for djellabah robe or sarong, try for a little French song.

When the mischiefs sound their gong.

Me, I sing a little French song.
