The Conveniences of the Modern Kitchen
The Conveniences of the Modern Kitchen
After dinner each night, I like one of those sugary instant coffee drinks. Before bed, a cup of camomile tea. I used to heat up water in a tea kettle for each of those, but then I got a little countertop water heater/cooler, and I can just dispense hot water whenever I like with the press of a button. The heater/cooler has a 5-gallon bottle that I just refill with tap water when it runs out. It's kind of heavy when full. Of course it has a built-in handle to make it easier to maneuver into place. This is the view through the grip of the handle. Immediately in front of the hole you see two of three hanging wire-mesh baskets, empty in this shot, though I keep various things there: some fresh fruit or veggies; maybe onions or potatoes; a bag of dried apricots, which I like; or some chocolates, when the weather's cool enough that they don't need to be in the fridge to keep from melting. I don't really like chocolate right out of the fridge; it's too hard.

Shower - Before and After
I got tired of waiting for my landlord to fix my broken water heater (yes, broken again - it happens every 6 weeks or so). I also got tired of the good-for-nothing electrician who seems to make more of a mess every time he touches the darn thing. Seriously, he's butchered the wiring so badly it wouldn't pass a code inspection in Hell. So, I decided to buy a new heating shower head on my own dollar and install it myself. Works great - looks less deadly, too. Hip hip hooray!
