Here is a synopsis of what happens in this 12 minute episode... It shows two Dharma men in Guam at a Dharma facility printing up Dharma food labels and pasting them on the food, then putting the food on palates and loading the pallates on "drones" that drop the food pallates on the island. Then Ben walks in, explains he is from the home office and that there is a new man in charge that sent him to let these guys know their services are no longer needed, and this place is being shut down. The two men say they have been doing this for the last 20 years, what are they supposed to do now, and Ben hands them their severance pay, in cash, and tells them they can do whatever they want now. That "the Dharma Initiative hasn't existed in almost 20 years" To which the one guy says: "That's not true. We still get a teletype before every drop." Ben explains it's automated, and that it comes from the Lamp Post Station in LA and that there hasn't been a person posted there since these two started. That's why the man in charge (Hugo) has him going around closing down shop. When Ben is about to leave, one of the two guys yells at Ben: "Wait! You can't just walk out of here, WE DESERVE ANSWERS!" So Ben says each of them can ask one question, to which he will answer. Questions asked by them, and Ben's answers, were: "Where have we been sending these pallets, where have they been dropped?" "An Island." "Hows that possible, the coordinates are different every time?" "The Island moves." "How does the Island m..." "Ah ah, one question." "We're on Guam, so this Island is somewhere in the tropics, right? So explain THIS." (shows Ben a box of Dharma Polar Bear Biscuits) "how is there a Polar Bear on a tropical island?" "Polar bearS, actually. Plural. You guys have a DVD player?" (Ben pulls out a DVD and they watch it.) Ben: "So we watch it together, and then we all leave, is that a deal?" "Sorry about the quality, it's a transfer from an old Betamax" (which itself was a transfer of an old FILM) What they are watch is one version of the orientation film of the Hydra Station: "Hello. I'm Dr Pierre Chang. And this is the orientation video for station one of the Dharma Initiative, the Hydra." (Note, he SAYS "video" but it was obviously originally recorded on film, as you can see film grain, and bad film splices and edits) "For purposes of security, please do not divulge my name to any outside parties. I will now have to use an alias, in the future. The chief purpose of this station is to conduct biological and behavioral research on various animal, bird and marine subjects. Here are some of the duties you may be asked to perform." (there is a bird cage behind him, covered with a white sheet, in which can be heard a bird saying "Hurley, Hurley") "Genetic alteration. These fascinating hybrids, or hybirds as we call them, will be released and monitored to see how they adapt to the unique properties of the island. ...studies in larger mammals. Polar bears posses a keen sense of memory and adaptability. These traits make them ideal candidates for electromagnetic studies that will be conducted at a secondary site where their comfort in cold temperatures... ..its very important in dealing with the bears that you do not show affection or become attached in any way. Also, do not underestimate their intelligence and cunning. These rules must always be followed. I repeat, the bears are not your friends. ..rewarding the bear with a fish biscuit once it has successfully performed a complex puzzle. After the training is completed, you will tranquilize the bear, affix this tracking device (collar and tag like the one uncovered by Charlotte in Tunisia) around the subject's neck at which point it will be transported to the orchid station for the next phase of research. Remember be sure to confirm that the female bears have not been impregnated before transport as the electromagnetic levels at the Orchid have an extremely harmful effect on early term gestation. As you've already learned, we do animal research here at Hydra. Unfortunately, one must consider the most dangerous animal of all, humans. And so, there is a more secluded test site where we are conducting significantly more sensitive work. The Island's indigenous population, some of you may have heard them referred to as hostiles, are acquired on the main island, sedated and brought here to room 23. Because the subjects are unwilling participants security personnel should always be present during these sessions. Under no circumstances are you to engage subjects in conversation. The purpose of these interrogations is to better understand the hostiles' way of life, their origins and particularly their worship of an island deity they refer to as Jacob. After the research team has

18th June ~ Packing
The Hughes Clan are off on our travels. We leave on Sunday morning, but being as I am anal (verging on obsessive) about packing the car, I have started tonight. I am immensly proud of my achievements this year. Have you ever wondered what was underneath the floor of your boot? Well, we have a Spare Wheel, and a LOT of space. I consider it a personal challenge to see how much I can fit in there each year. Oh yes, my life is so rock and roll! Here, you can see the top layer of packing. Underneath, there are such delights as Marmalade, Tinned Tomatoes, Jars of Pasta Sauce, Tinned Spaghetti, Pasta, Bottled drinks, Shampoo, A zillion snacks (raisins, banana sticks etc), Tissues, Kitchen Roll, Foil, Shower gel, Rennies, J cloths, Washing Powder and probably a load of other crap that I can't remember! The floor has now been replaced in the boot and all this stuff is hidden from sight, using all the space in between the gaps of the spare wheel. It just looks like I've got an empty boot. Tonight's job done :-) (and please, no comments about us taking Crackers to France ;-))
