The Civil Air Patrol, the official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, was established in 1941 and is currently recognized as part of the "Total Force" of the USAF. Civil Air Patrol is a national organization represented in all 50 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico as well as several locations overseas. CAP has over 60,000 volunteer civilian members nationwide, and operates the world's largest fleet of light aircraft.
Part of the Mississippi Wing, the G.V. Montgomery Composite Squadron - MS-102, is the local unit which meets at Key Field in Meridian, MS. Locally, our unit has approximately 35 adult and cadet members, and is active in executing Civil Air Patrol's three missions: Emergency Services, Cadet Programs, and Aerospace Education.
Civil Air Patrol's Cadet Program is open to youth ages 12-20, and provides leadership and career development opportunities to young people interested in aviation, military, or other related fields. CAP cadets learn about the aerospace field and get hands-on leadership experience and networking through local, state, and national events - including funded flying opportunities.
Civil Air Patrol performs over 95% of all inland Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, as well as providing Disaster Relief and other assistance to numerous other federal agencies. We are constantly looking for adult members of various backgrounds to assist in emergency services, as well as parents, educators, current or former military, or industry professionals to assist with the cadet program and aerospace education outreach programs.
Our Squadron meets on Monday nights from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm at the Key Field Mississippi Air National Guard Facility. We welcome parents and prospective new members to visit us during our meetings to learn more about Civil Air Patrol and our activities in Meridian, MS.
